Fluttery Friends

Moths typically rest with their wings open, butterflies closed. Both are covered with scales. Some scales are colored, some refract light. To catch them without harming them, gently pinch the wings together behind their head. For our data collection, we placed them gently in an envelope, then put them in the fridge and then freezer for a very brief time. This left them immobilized for measuring and identification, and then they were able to fly free.Read more
