Snack updateMay 24, 2019 in Japan ⋅ 🌙 25 °C
Some great new additions to the snack game.
Oof, today was a long one. Spent the morning getting myself to the bullet train out of Tokyo. Such a good trip though, such good trains! Seeing some greenery out the window was nice too.
Arrived Kyoto and straight away hopped on another train out to Kurama. Hiked from there to Kibune, which was BEAUTIFUL. So peaceful and serene, only saw a few other people, big change from Tokyo.
Trained back into Kyoto, found my accommodation, showered, did some laundry, had some food, and not much else.
This hostel is incredible, nicer than most hotels I've stayed in. Beautiful rooftop terrace, incredibly clean, quiet cosy roomy bed nooks, and great showers too. Glad I'm here for three nights.
Off to bed xRead more
Was set to head here later in the afternoon but with how unexpectedly HOT it is here, I decided to get it done in the morning instead. Caught the train and a bus and walked around in the sun foreverrrr trying to find it!! I knew I was on the right block but just could not see an entrance/a sign/nothing. Was getting very hot and annoyed but finally found it, and it was worth it!
Set up very maze-like, like a warren, very dark inside with no maps/guides/routes etc. They just leave you to find what you find and miss what you miss!Read more
I'm not taking enough food photos! But here are some little things I've had.
The first is some inari with pickled ginger, just from a 7/11 but so good! Better depth of flavour than in Australia.
Then the sweeties are from an amazing Japanese bakery just down the road from my hostel, you walk around with a tray and serve yourself and there's free coffee until 10am!
The first one was like a chewy wholemeal sourdough bun filled with cream cheese and dried figs! Then the second was kind of a hybrid of an almond and chocolate croissant.Read more
After a bloody ORDEAL at the airport, I am onboard! Huge fluff up of my allocated seat left me quite disappointed but ya girl complained and charmed and now I am in an empty row by myself with extra legroom 😎 Hopefully it staysss empty.
Bit sick with a head cold, and very sleepy, so basically hoping this flight goes as quickly as possible.
Did some shopping yesterday in Melbourne and had dinner of okonomiyaki and yakitori, haha getting a headstart on the Japanese!Read more
Last night after getting in I took the train out to my friend Georgia's house in Brunswick where I stayed the night. This morning I went out walking and hit some opshops 😊 I really wanted to find a pair of more comfortable walking shoes, and I did! Pretty much brand new looking pair of Brooks runners; I looked them up online and they go for about $150, so another bargain! Since they're still pretty much new though they diddd give me a cheeky little heel blister, but I'm sure they'll be worn in soon.
Early arvo I trained back into the city, got some food, did some shopping (although my bag is pretty much at max capacity now...) and checked into the hostel I'm at for the next two nights.
Oh and my flight to Tokyo was cancelled!! Haha, perfect form for Jetstar after rescheduling my flight schedule SIX times already, causing me to lose a whole day in Japan. Luckily this time they provided a replacement flight that is at roughly the same time as originally planned. Will add two hours flight time though :( Hate long flights.
Anyway, not really sure what I'm going to do tomorrow given that I've got no room for any shopping, haha, but I might just laze around.
Please enjoy this magnificent pupper I met.Read more
Airport waiting. Still an hour til flight to Melb takes off. Witnessed a very disgruntled bogan youth be escorted from the airport, thanku for not being on my flight.
Bags are packed and coming in at about 6.5kg! Nicely under the 7kg carry-on limit. Means I'll have no extra room for Melbourne shopping....but I did decide to buy checked baggage for the flight home! So I can buy as much as I like in Japan 😊
Feeling so incredibly stoked with the bag I scored, the tipshop ALWAYS delivers. I was prepared to pay $100+ for the right bag to take and a couple weeks before I go what do I find at the tipshop? The perfecttttt bag, exactly like I would've bought, maybe even nicer, for FOUR DOLLARS. It's lit.
Having my luck, I badly flared up an old back injury last night 😒🙃 I got picked up in the air and apparently my body couldn't deal with that? But whatever, it is what it is, I'm popping ibuprofen and hoping for the best. I'm also madly trying to fight off the cold I have hovering.
Am writing this mostly out of boredom, wish I had a book. Must get one in Melb. Will update once I'm there 😊
