Road trip through RMNP to Grand Lake, timing could have been better, Holzwarth Historical site closed for the season and a lot of stores were closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Still Grand Lake is an old town with lots of history. Also saw a moose and calf in the trees and the headwaters of the mighty Colorado River on the way there. Picnicked by the lake, heard someone say the haze in the air is due to wildfires up in Montana.もっと詳しく

RMNP - The Loch Trail

Another great hike from Bear Lake trailhead, first stop Albert Falls then up a rugged trail to The Loch overlooking what's left of Andrew Glacier. We detoured on the way 'down ', which involved a lot of up again to Haiyaha Lake. Spectacular scenery everywhere, photos do not do it justice. Stanley Hotel - Estes Park, CO

Great tour, hotel has so much history.... notably Stephen King and his family who were the only guests one cold 1974 September night. They stayed in room 217 and he had a nightmare..... He had his inspiration for his next book 'The Shining'.もっと詳しく

Friday - Long's Peak Scottish & Irish

Highland Festival......
We extended our stay in Estes Park to This amazing celebration of their Celtic heritage. Our kilts are in Scotland and we feel underdressed as most folks are wearing them, even the police, although Stew's 'Wee Jimmy' hat goes down well. Loads of stands selling everything Celtic from kilts to shortbread. Food stalls selling anything from haggis to deep fried mars bars !! Pipe bands, jousting, strong men, dancing competitions and Scottish & Irish bands playing. Belhaven beer, Macallan, Highland Park and Grouse whisky.
Highlight of the day was meeting Clan Johnston/e, great people and as to be expected, beer, whisky and stories flowed.もっと詳しく

Busier today, official opening ceremony with bands, colour guard and great mountain backdrop. Irish leprechauns and all !!

Highland Festival......
Last day and more bopping to Irish band The Angry Brian's and the Scottish tribal drum, pipe and yes 'digeridoo' band Albannach. Made sure we got a seat for the jousting today, its for real and is brutal !!
Should have asked Vic where he got his tee shirt from as know a few people it would suit !!もっと詳しく
