Had a great bowl of porridge and a latte at a local cafe then drove a few minutes to the Redwood Forest. Redwoods are native to California but were planted here in NZ as an experiment. The idea was to find a species that would grow more quickly than native species and could be used for lumber. Unfortunately redwoods grow too quickly here and the wood ends up being too soft.

We enjoyed the Redwoods Treewalk which was very interesting and finished our visit to the forest with a short tour of the man-made glowworm cave.

After the Redwood Forest visit we drove to Taupo, had some lunch and went to explore Huka Falls on the Waikato River just north of town.
