• Day 3 Cork - Or is it?

    August 31, 2024 in Ireland ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Day 3 has seen us dock in Cork , or so we thought. Not quite true. Not an early start this morning as we were docking just 500 meters from the town centre. We weren’t late up but nice and leisurely, breakfast on the decks before disembarking the ship to go in to town.

I saw a signpost saying Cork 24 miles - mmm, interesting. The communication on the ship was a tad misleading and it turned out to be a 25 minute train journey in to Cork, we docked in Cobh !!

Again, we have been very lucky with the weather, beautiful blue skies and plenty is sunshine, just shorts and t- shirt weather, until the breeze kicks in. Then it was a tad cooler. But as the sun went down it was noticeably cooler.

We took the train in to Cork, only 25 minutes away and it ran every half an hour. A lovely city but very little to see there, maybe we should have done a little bit of research first, we just didn’t realise. We had a lovely wander round before returning to the ship around mid afternoon. We had a spot of lunch then got off again to have a look around Cobh. It was a beautiful little town, very pretty and characterful. It’s great being on these cruises, they always seem to stop at the seaside 😂😂. We wandered in to a traditional Irish bar with a singer on for a little drink and that was a great atmosphere.

We set sail around 6pm heading for Holyhead in Anglesey, the temperature had started to drop and some grey clouds started to roll in, we sat out on the balcony with a cup of tea as we set sail.

What happened next has scarred me for life, we went out on the open decks to watch the movie under the stars, bear in mind darkness had fallen, we were full steam ahead at 15knotts so it was windy and bloody freezing, but here’s the kicker - the film was Barbie !! (Hangs head in shame). If I were to take the positives out of this embarrassing experience is that I managed to work out how to order food to be delivered to the lounger we were sat shivering at whilst being subjected to what someone called a movie 😂😂

So, in summary a great day with great weather (we’ll not mention Barbie), now powering on to Wales !!
