Today was a good day. We did a couple of small hikes and then did a three mile one. The big hike was to delicate arch which is the arch pictured in books. It truly is amazing land. After the park we headed to our campground, swam in the pool and had an early night.Baca lagi

Mesa Verde National Park

Today we went to the cliff dwellings of the Anasazi. We were able to go into cliff palace which was built over 900 years ago. It amazing what they could do with so little. Then we headed to Great Sand Dunes National Park. They have been busy, tiring days, but well worth it. On the drives the kids take naps.Baca lagi

Great Sand Dunes National Park

Today we had perfect weather for Great Sand Dunes National Park. It had rained last night, so we weren't sure we would be able to slide down them, but it turned out we could. It was nice and cool. The dunes are incredible. Everyone had a blast sliding down, but the walk back up was a different story! After sliding we played in the creek, which is seasonal from the mountain snow runoff. Then, back on the road for 8 hours of traveling.Baca lagi

US center, B Vs. B, Friends

Today was a big travel day. We drove to the geological center of the contiguous US. Then we headed to the Brown Vs. Board of education. This was very eye opening for the kids. They can't fathom how/why people treated other people that way. After that we headed to a hotel. We were able to meet up with friends who used to live in VT, but now live in Illinois. However we met up with them in Kansas as they were traveling home from Colorado.Baca lagi

Travel and Gateway Arch

Today was mostly a travel day. We stayed in our large hotel room until noon and finally ventured back to our RV. We drove to see the gateway arch in St. Louis. Then drove some more, so we would be close to Mammoth cave.Baca lagi

Mammoth Cave

Today we visited Mammoth Cave National Park. We went on a 2 hour tour of a cave. It was over 300 steps down into the cave. It was awesome. Many big cave rooms and formations. On the way out there were many cave crickets. Unfortunately, no bats because the cave is infected with the fungus that causes white nose bat syndrome. We decided more ice cream was needed. Another travel day to get closer to Virginia. It has been hot traveling. When we arrived at the RV park the kids were able to swim and play until a thunderstorm came in.

Newport News and the Atlantic

We were able to get up a a leisurely pace this morning and stayed at the campground until noon. It was nice not to be in a rush. The kids swam some more and played with some of the many ducks that were around the property. There was also some intense gaga ball being played. We only had to drive 1.5 hours to meet one of Jodi's friends, Janina for a snack. It was a nice visit. Then back in the RV for another 1.5 to see the Tucker family. We had pizza and ice cream and dipped our toes in the Atlantic. Both oceans in one summer was our ultimate goal. The Atlantic was MUCH warmer.Baca lagi

Hershey

Today we said good bye to our friends and ventured 5 hours north to go to Hershey park. We arrived around 3:00 and stayed until closing at 10:00. The kids had sooo much fun. There were many roller coasters that Riann and Rileigh liked (13 in the park) and many other rides that Zak and Randi enjoyed. We thought 7 hours there would have been plenty, but we didn't even see the entire park. It wasn't because of the lines as there really wasn't any. Most of the time, they had to wait one turn and then it was their turn. The park is just that big. We had tired kiddos by the end of the night, but they all kept "it together". Unfortunately, no pictures at Hershey as no one wanted to carry a camera and Jodi's phone had a slight mishap in Virginia and was no longer working.Baca lagi

After 8,657 miles we made it back home. Today was a long 9 hour driving day. Everyone did a great job "keeping it together" today. Even though countless memories were made, there really is NO PLACE LIKE HOME 😊 A HUGE thank you to Sue and Gerald and Warren and Sharon for looking after the animals and house so this trip could be possible :)Baca lagi
