Temple of Literature

Important historical information is found in the third courtyard. The courtyard is flanked on each side by 2 rows of stone stelae on pedestals shaped as tortoises representing permanence. The stelae record the names of successful candidates of the 82 examinations of men chosen to assist the king in governing the country between 1442 and 1779.
