It’s time to continue to Nagano, so to the mountains we go! The shinkansen took us there quite fast, and we started exploring the city.

Brief stop in Karuizawa

Due to more cancelled busses we took a short stop in Karuizawa, a Norway esque ski town. Then we went to look at a waterfall!
Onsen Town Kusatsu

We arrive at our last stop before Tokyo, Kusatsu. This moutain town is sprawlig with sulfiric hotsprings that can reach 80 degrees, but the fumes smell quite bad…
Kusatsu - Second day

Final day in Kusatsu. We bathed in 2 of the onsens, 1 footbath (while drinking) and watched the Yumomi (water cooling) ceremony.

Discharge Tunnel

We visited the Tokyo Outer Area Discharge Tunnel, a huge infrastructure project that is supposed to keep a large area outside of Tokyo free from flooding by moving water into big silos.
