What a Day 😳

Ok guys I've had a shocker of a day but come through the other end unbowed !!! A lots of my own stubbornness , others well actually most of it my own stubbornness by maintaining I was able to stay by the coast all day , as my app showed and spent 2hours and 8 K proving myself wrong Then when I got back on track met incredible hills , technology letting me down ...
To be blunt on a 31k day I ended up walking 37k nearly 50000 steps. I don't have any visual record of the day except for a few photo oh and my first Camino blister .

On the good side having arrived at a brand new Albergue attached to an abbey on top of a big hill which has a funicular train and yes it has broken down and I had to walk 3k more up hill and not being sent the code to get in . I was let in by a Belgium couple who along with me are the only ones staying in this big Hostel . We even put our clothes together to share the cost of the laundry 6 € split 3 ways . Looks like a room to myself too suppose all's well that ends well !

What a nice place taken round and introduced to fellow guests. Very homely got a single bed in the corner happy boy

Last night in Portugal

Well that was a good day. Started off very wet but walked through it thankfully my wet gear did the trick. It turned out a very long dad again but as they say the Camino makes you stronger . Lots of hills which are challenging but once you're up there ... Caminha is the place to catch the Ferry over to Spain . Guess what it's out of order so have to use one of the river taxis that'll interesting they don't hang about ! I've added some photos . My apps let me down again today so from now on I'm going to rely more on FB for videos and photos and use Penguin less as it does let me upload lots of the time and really pissed of with the route plotter so I'll try tomorrow and then

Travelerit was Carole they keep the glasses in the freezer which keeps it icy cold but I end up soaked from a dripping glass . I had to stop myself necking it in one 🍺

This really is the most beautiful Albergue in the most beautiful setting imaginable. Everyone nearly all solo walkers have already arranged to visit local restaurant together tonight . Feeling quite mellow. Oh and Laundry in the washer !😛Read more

Good Morning

Having a rest day at Oia today. It was strange this morning watching everyone up and packing and on the road. Felt like I should be going too but in the last 6 days covered 174 K with around 160 approx to Santiago, unless I decide to do the Spiritual Veriant which adds not too many more miles but adds 1 day to the journey and involved another boat ride this time a couple of hours to Padron en route to Santiago, so seems a good chance to recharge . Nice group of Pilgrims last night it will be interesting to see who turns up at the albergue.

Just sitting in the Camino Way through Oia having a lovely coffee and I have just been asked for by a group of Pilgrims the way to the Camino. I thought this was strange as I am surrounded by signs until I noticed that most of the group appeared to be blind or at least reduced vision. Everyday I feel very privileged to be having this experience.

Tonights Cohort

Well tonight's cohort are starting to gather so far we have 2 Pakistani sisters , a Bulgarian Business man a Canadian grandmother with relatives in Belfast and a young girl from the Ukraine has just turned up . Rumour has it there are 2 Dublin ladies en route..Irish ladies didn't turn up so ended up having dinner with Jose from Holland delightful meal and good company .Read more

Part of Yesterday's Hike

TravelerYeah it been unreliable Carole somehow it contrived to omit the first and last hour or so of yesterday but we will see . It’s been over cast but largely dry here today actually very good walking weather . Now that I’m rested I think I see how weary I had become .

TravelerLester it was 174 kilometres over 6 days around 110 miles . After a very short first day I'd say an average of just less than 20 miles a day if you think my maths is off before Meehan or Kearney pull me up I have 6 nights but 7 walks to SdC (if I decide against the variant

Made good time this morning, the beer can wait until after check-in at 1pm. Just ordered my favourite Spanish Breakfast Toast(a) Tomato Olive Oil with Cafe and zumo 😛

I really enjoyed today's route and cheated a little bit where I knew the path climbed up in a forest for about 60 minutes only to return to the main path about 2k metres on so I just stayed on the coast and saved a little time and my feetRead more

Travelerit is Bobby it's the biggest city in Galicia. I was in on a Sunday night last time and it had a nice vibe lots of Spanish families out eating . Don't get much chance to see much but I do know where I want to eat heard good reports about a pilgrim's menu best my Albergue.
