  • Day 4 continued

    16 de setembro de 2019, Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Lots of brief encounters with fellow walker's today too many to relate as you get to see the same faces all the time and people genuinely start to momentarily bond if that's not a contradiction in terms .

I will never forgets the laughs and sounds coming from a large group of Italian mamas as one of their group a jolly lady tried with great gusto to knock an apple from a tree with her walking pole

The craic with Shane from Ireland .Rita from Hungry and big Geoffrey from Portland USA. This started when I was having trouble getting a water fountain to give me any water .But Shane with brute strength unstuck it and we stood drinking together when Shane all of a sudden asked if I was called Jim ... I said yes? How did you know that ? He then pointed to my Starbucks cup which I carry which had my name on it .This lead to next 10 verbal sparring between the two Irish men with the other laughing sling though not sure how much they got ? When I told them where Zi was planning to stay tonight they said they would maybe try and get in there .BTW Rita really liked my pink socks

Two cross looking girls who were just in front of me on the track who abruptly stopped and started back towards me thinking we had missed a marker I asked what was wrong I was told very sharply we've had enough we are going back ..ok ?
Just another day on the Camino

  • Missed this one!

    16 de setembro de 2019, Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Part of the reason for my doing so many more K yesterday than I had expected that it seems some unscrupulously cafe and bar owners are erecting bugus markers to divert walkers past their establishments anyway must pay more attention to my app from now on but you know what seen loads anyway and know what is possible if I need to . Here are some more photos from yesterdayLeia mais

  • My Home for the night

    16 de setembro de 2019, Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Decent Hostel /Guest House right in centre of old town next door to Cathedral . Hostel ultra quiet my private room was tiny I could touch both walls while lying in.bed and no wash hand basin or even a hook but a TV ! Anyway what can one expect for 20€. The town was quite upmarket definitely more Portstewart than Portrush and I didn't find the people particular friendly apart from here and restaurant last night oh and the crazy lady in the ice cream coffee shop last nightLeia mais

Had the most uplifting day ... But walked more than I had planned so I'm bushed! feel good, feet are fine and I'll do it all again tomorrow along the coast but probably only half the distance . I have loads of photos and few yarns I had intended up loading tonight but have to wait. • Day 3

Off we go into the mist let's see what joys today brings

  • Irish on the move

    17 de setembro de 2019, Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Went all last year's Camino and only met one other Irish person and her and I walked together into SdC. Today seemed like every second person was Irish . I walked with a couple from Strangford for a while and shared a coffee with a couple from Cobh. No Irish have turned up here so maybe just listen for the rowdiest bar tonight . I'm sharing a 4 bunk room with a banker from Switzerland , an American woman of Japanese extract and a young woman who is either from the Balkans or Russia oh and a Australian who isn't in my room but seems to want to be in my gang lol! Funny how quickly one can used to sharing space with strangers especially when the craic is good . Didn't take many photos today with weather wasn't much scenic stuff but I'll put a few up laterLeia mais

  • Hostel 11.

    17 de setembro de 2019, Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

I've arrived and lovely bloke let me book bottom bunk . Hard enough today first couple of hours may have been scenic if one could have seen anything but at least the rain and predicted thunderstorm stayed away. Second half was largely on newly constructed boardwalks through onion field which bizarrely smelt wonderful but by now yesterday's exertions were taking those toll and legs were feeling very heavy but made it in 4 .hours and now for coffee and cold drinkLeia mais

  • First Peregrinos Menu

    17 de setembro de 2019, Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Waiter just asks if you want meat or fish , wine or beer then you get what he brings you .... We'll see... I choose Fish just noticed option on Meat option is Cow Guts ... I assume that's tripe !
I'vd been joined by Hans from Switzerland and I had skate and he had cod and we shared with two coffee and a complementary glass of Port is cost 20€ for us both. Hans reckons we were lucky the Peregrino menu is typically heavy on carbs and loads of chips soups and bread but I'm not complaining Good Night

  • Day4 Walk

    18 de setembro de 2019, Portugal ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

First half of today walk was actually away from the coast through forests and hill villages and when I say hill villages I mean hill . It was challenging but at the same time really nice and reminded me very much of last year Camino through Galicia .There seemed to be a treat as round every cornerLeia mais

  • OMG ....well that explains it !

    18 de setembro de 2019, Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Just had a chat with s portugeese guy and he explained to me that the reason I've already done ,40,K on what was a 30k day is that I am following the Senda Litora which hugs the coastline whereas the coastal route goes through the coastal villages and town via roads ... suppose a bit like going from Coleraine to Belfast via Ballymoney and Ballymena as opposed to going via the Antrim Coast Road .suppose that explains Monday mileage too
Good to know and worth every k
