  • Portland - I am in love

    July 23, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Sooo amazing! Portland and its beautiful sorroundings (Mount Hood, Eagle Creek, the Timberline lodge - where the Shining was shot) as well as the people were unbelievably great. Walking around in the city, hiking in the mountains, swimming in glacier water and the best food and drinks on Marcs deck, the best!Read more

What an amazing boat trip! Napali coast with dolphins, turtles, snorkeling, waterfalls, hawaiian dinner and sunset - beautiful and no motion sickness after all!

  • Waimea canyon & loads of coffee

    August 3, 2017 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 18 °C

Today we visited the little sister of grand canyon - Waimea canyon. Beautifull but not like Bryce canyon; we've become high maintenance by now... hawaiian coffee and koloa old town - 1st town in Kauai - incl a nice dinner at a japanese restaurant - surviving first world problems 😉Read more

  • Gone surfing!

    August 12, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Finally we managed to take a surfing lesson. It was amazing and after Lars stood his first wave, I just had to get the second! And a hawaiian monk seal shoved us how to really surf in the end. Moreover we've been driving all over the island - its beautiful sites like northshore and the east and its touristy sites like Pearl Harbor, Waikiki, and the resorts.Read more

  • Aloha Hawaii - Konnichiwa Tokyo

    August 18, 2017 in Japan ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

After some really beautiful last days and sights on Oahu (incl a hike, some hidden gem beaches and Honolulu China- and Downtown) we finally said goodbye to the US and made our way to Japan with a short stopover in Taipei! Cracy town this Tokyo - already got acquainted with the many bathroom features and the difficulties of a smoker - and I thought America was hard on us 😉Read more

  • Soso Tokyo!

    August 20, 2017 in Japan ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Just walking around town watching people is super cool! Besides that went to see a ballgame (crazy fans), the Senso-Ji tempel, the Imperial Palace, the crazy 5-way Shibuya crossing and the hippie quarter Shimo-Kitazawa and had awesome foodRead more

  • Shinkansen to Kyoto

    August 21, 2017 in Japan ⋅ 🌙 29 °C

Today we took the speedtrain Shinkansen to Kyoto (2,5 hours train ride for 450 Km) incl a smoking room - very nice! Arrived in our very japanese appartment with a private onsen (hot bath, not that you need that with the heat and the humidity but oh well) on the balcony and checked out the neighbourhood. Looking forward to our first night sleeping on the floor...Read more

  • Osaka: cooking class and sight seeing

    August 23, 2017 in Japan ⋅ 🌙 27 °C

Went to Osaka today to take a cooking class. Yucco showed us amazing japanese family food and explained a lot about the culture. I learned, how to make a decoration cut, different broths, 4-layered omelet, how to cook with chopsticks and eat politely. Afterwards we took a look at hipster japanese in 90'ies american clothes in Amerika-Mura and enjoyed a beautiful view from the Osaka-jo castleRead more

  • Hiroshima & Kyoto maquakes

    August 26, 2017 in Japan ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

After a visit of the maquake monkey park yesterday (great place, where they cage the visitors and let the apes run free - even managed to feed them and saw two babies), we visited Horoshima and the very tastefull monuments and museum today - heavy stuff! But another train ride with the shinkansen incl bentobox and a sundowner on our rooftop helped.Read more

  • Cebu, Philippines

    August 29, 2017 on the Philippines ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

The trip from Tokyo to Oslob on Cebu Island was exhausting - 4,5 hours plainride with Vanilla Air and a 4 hours drive (for 130 Km) through slums, burning trash and pure poverty, while fighting drugs and brutality against children and women. Very hard to see people and animals living like that - makes you think and be thankful for the things at home. The "resort" for 28€ a night and Oslob itself are - lets call it - interesting, but people are nice.Read more

  • Snorkeling with whale sharks

    August 30, 2017 on the Philippines ⋅ ⛅ 32 °C

Although we had to get up at 5 a.m. it was sooo worth it. Did snorkeling with whale sharks today. Those cuties were 6-8 m long (can get up to 12-18 m and weigh 12 tons), but totally calm. They even swam directly under the boat and touched our legs. They only eat plancton, but open their mouth up to 1 m, I was afraid, they would accidently snif me - but it was absolutely awesome! Rest of the day is chillaxing-time 😉Read more

  • Escape to paradise - Moalboal

    August 31, 2017 on the Philippines ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

After the whale shark snorkeling, some hanging out at the pool and a massage in Oslob, we decided to leave to Moalboal for two days. George, our driver, managed the roads like a pro and now we have a perfect beach paradise "just" for ourselfes! Sharing it with wild dogs and sea urchins ( Lars met up with those pretty close today 😢) though. Paradise and anxiety therapy at the same time...Read more

  • KL - Malaysia you rock!

    September 4, 2017 in Malaysia ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Getting up at 1 a.m. to drive to Cebu City and fly to Kuala Lumpur was one of those travel moments you just have to save as "interesting". Beeing back in KL is amazing - the Petronas towers, the KL tower with its delicious teatime and the heli lounge are still awesome!Read more

  • Nepal - just... wow

    September 6, 2017 in Nepal ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Flight from KL to Nepal with a lot of people, that have apparently never used an aircraft before. We left late, because 80% of the other guests needed to take selfies with the plane! Kathmandu is crazy. Our host, Damodar, is very hospitable and takes good care of us. First walk was to Pashupatinath-tempel - we watched three burning bodies, a lot of holy people, monkeys, holy cows and street dogs. Also just walking in the streets is an interesting task - what a different world... btw: the time difference to Germany is 3:45 hoursRead more

  • Drive around Kathmandu

    September 8, 2017 in Nepal ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Hari brought us to Patan Durbar square, Baktapur Durbar square and his hometown Nagarkot (nearly saw the Everest, but it was a bit cloudy) today. Allthough the earthquake in 2015 has ruined quite a lot, the old buildings, tempels and stupas are beautiful. Downside is that everyone tries to sell you stuff or tours, which distracts a little. Moreover the poverty is striking (people living in huts without water, sorounded by trash, dirt and dust), feeling very priviledged as a German.Read more
