Rila Monastery was a lovely side trip from Sofia.
It is an Eastern Orthodox monastery founded in the 10th century and still houses about 60 monks.
It is named after the hermit Saint Ivan of RilaLeer más

Tanya DalzielA little of both. We were there about 10-10.30, it's a couple of hours from Sofia and we beat the other buses, so it's only people who stayed nearby (you can actually stay there, that would be cool.) It was much busier when we left, however nothing like western europe busy!
