    Fez medina - old quarter

    28 octobre 2024, Maroc ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

I've been to Fez before. It's a really interesting place. It's known as Morocco's spiritual and cultural capital.

The main thing it's known for its walled medina. It is a labyrinth of over 9000 cobbled streets and alleys, some of them very narrow. It's the oldest living medieval Islamic city in the world. There are no cars, so you must go on foot.

It's still operating very much as it did in the past, and you feel like you're in another world. It's fascinating.

There are 300 mosques within the medina. It's amazing hearing the call to prayer echo through the alleyways. On the other hand, the smell of the tanneries is disgusting. Thankfully, they give you mint to sniff to minimise the smell.

We've been unlucky with the weather. It has rained almost constantly. This has minimised the number of photos I've been able to take.

VoyageurWe agree, Fez is a fascinating place. GPS would have been handy when we were there.
