    We are spelunkers

    July 10, 2022 in Slovenia ⋅ ⛅ 63 °F

We went to a cave in Slovenia which has the largest cavern in Europe. It was beautiful with towering stalagmites and cool rock structures and lots of old stairs and bridges from the days when the cave was discovered. It was cool to see a running river in a cave and to see the history of spelunkers past still evidenced in their tiny steps and very very rickety rope bridges. We then hiked through the collapsed part of the cave which had beautiful greenery. After all that we had to run for more than a mile to get to the train station in time to catch the train which would allow us to get home for dinner. Which was necessary as we missed breakfast due to it being Sunday and the grocery store which we planned to go to was closed. I met a local on the train who offered to take us to get a local specialty (very reminiscent of Mad’s stuffies) and then we had dessert and headed home to pack up for leaving the next day!Read more
