    Salkantay Survivors!

    Salkantay Trek day 5, part 2. I can’t believe we made it! We got to have a great view of the whole site and we got to walk amongst some of the buildings as well! I didn’t know you got to do that. It was very surreal to be there finally and a bit hard to take in while being so incredibly tired. However, I learned quite a bit! The Inca empire was about 300 years long and ended in the 1500s because of the Spanish colonizers. They put their cities in the mountains knowing that the valleys were best for growing food and so that their cities were closest to their gods. They did some human sacrifices and had a sundial calendar. They used sand to polish rocks into perfect squares for the rich people’s houses. It was a fun day! I then walked down the stairs with the rest of our group which was hard but we talked on the way down so it wasn’t too bad. Once we got to lunch though I was feeling the never walk again vibe! We luckily booked the train home so it was mostly naps from there. We had a few Airbnb mishaps but we made it and get to sleep in!!Читать далее

    We love our Salkantay family! So today after Anna got a tattoo! We met up with them for lunch! We went to Green Point. It’s feeling amazing to not have to hike for once, and to get to sleep in! Walking around Cusco still feels like a workout anyway so we aren’t out of the woods. Maybe our 3 days at lower elevation ruined our adjustment because I’m not sure how I ever hiked 5 different mountains! We spent about 4.5 hrs together for lunch and then came back together for dinner and drinks. We went to La Osteria. It’s a really fun group and we spend a lot of time swapping European vs American customs/lifestyle stories! Gonna miss them. Basically doing a Minnesota goodbye as we keep separating and saying goodbye only to see each other again!Читать далее

    We deserve a lazy day

    I woke up at 7am and couldn’t fall back asleep which was unfortunate but we decided today was for being lazy and watching things on the internet. So that’s what we did all day. Mike got us crepes and I took a nap. We finally went out for dinner and to return our duffle bags. We had Japanese food per Mink’s suggestion. The meal started during a blackout but luckily it didn’t last long. Now off to pack and to sleep again.Читать далее

    We did what?!

    Today we pack up for the last time. It feels good to be leaving, I think with doing the hike we all feel pretty accomplished and also too tired to really continue functioning. Even laying down or just standing up for a second makes me out of breath and I am over it. I want thick air! We do have a couple things to do though before the late night flights. Get a tattoo!! Get a massage and a pedicure!! And finish our shopping!! We thought the day would seem so long waiting for our flights however as we are getting our nails done we realize we are cutting it close for Anna’s flight! Seems just like us to be lulled into too much relaxation by the spa. We run around town to finish shopping while Mike’s nails dry and then get into an Uber… only to hop right out and decide to run to our Airbnb to get our luggage! One more huffy puffy moment for us! We all make it on our flights to Lima and are definitely totally super excited for the travel day to come.Читать далее

    Home again, home again!

    Well, it was a journey per usual! After waiting in the Lima airport from about midnight to 3:40am we got on our flight to Toronto. It was painful to say the least. We left late, so we were on the 8hr ride not knowing for sure if we would make our next flight! After what already seemed like a long day, that seemed like the end of the world! However, due to our running full speed through the Toronto airport, somehow our checked bags being processed fairly quickly, and most importantly our flight to MN being delayed we did make it on flight number three! So, so happy! It’s nice to just be home (even if our bags didn’t make that flight after all!) I’m still reeling from it all and processing how much we accomplished! I’m proud of us, chicas locas!
