    Cape Town Airport

    January 17, 2020 in South Africa ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Anne dropped me off at 6:30 at the drop and go of Cape Town Airport for my flight to Johannesburg.

Ready and excited, but also a bit anxious about the trip ahead. 22 days camping or some times we sleep in cheap accommodation.

The flight to Johannesburg was not even half full. So I could sit wherever I wanted

I landed in a wet Zambia, they just had had a tropical down poor. So we walked in ankle deep water from the plane to the airport building. Got my visa for Zambia, and a taxi driver was waiting there to get me to the border of Zimbabwe. That was a new experience, to have someone with sign with your name on it, standing and waiting for you.Read more

    January 18, 2020 in Botswana ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Enjoying the last bit of the stunning sunset after a very blessed and beautiful day. With the sounds of crickets, hippo's and all different birds, filling the warm African night, I am pondering how blessed I am. To be able to be on a holiday like this, in the middle of the bush.....

When we walked back, we came across a bushbuck. It stopped right in front of us, I could almost touch it... She was so beautiful, with little white spots on her back, and white socks...

  • Elephant Sands

    January 19, 2020 in Botswana ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

At the hottest of the day we arrived at our next camp ground. A quit open sandy field, in the middle of nowhere. On the way there we saw many elephants, and some giraffes, just along the "highway"

After setting up the tents, the team responsible for lunch had made us a nice lunch with Apple, tuna, cranberries, mayo and raisons. On wholewheat bread.

Chui, our truck, got stuck in the sand, but Often was able to get her out and parked in a better spot.

From today onwards I have a tent for myself, as one person from the group left today as her trip had ended.

There is a pool, and a great possibility that we will have elephants in the camp. They like to come for water. They even like to come into the bathrooms, despite the "defence system" that was built.

We are sitting outside, after a meal that I cooked, and that turned out quite nice. We ate chicken, cheese, mushroom sauce with pasta, fruitsalade and cake for desert.

We arrived at the campsite around 15:30. I was on cook-duty. I always like to cook, specifically if it is for a big group.

Maun is the second biggest city in Botswana. It seems quite small.

  • Border crossing into Namibia

    January 23, 2020 in Namibia ⋅ ⛅ 32 °C

We left the camp at 7.00 sharp again, for a long road along the edge off the Kalahari towards the Namibian border. We stopped in Maun to do shopping for the next 2 dinners. We stopped for a lunch that we prepared quickly with, pineapple, ham,-cheese sandwiches and appels. Around 15:30 we crossed it entering Babwata national park. Saw some Kudu, springbok and zebra. A change of scenery after the dozens of donkeys we saw.
An hour later we arrived at the Rainbow Springs, a beautiful campsite on the Okavango river. We quickly put up the tents and went for a sunset river cruise. It just was stunning!

We ate grilled tuna melt sandwiches and pesto pasta with cream cheese. And went for an early night. As tomorrow the alarm will go at 4;45

  • Okaukeujo camp

    January 25, 2020 in Namibia ⋅ ☀️ 34 °C

Around 11 am we arrived at the 2nd campsite in Ethosia. On the way there we again saw all kinds of animals, new today was the black backed jackal.

Now I am sitting at a waterhole. I think I can count 150-200 animals, zebra, impala, gemsbok, wildebeest, etc.

It is amazing to sit here and see the beauty of God's creation. So much variation, the way animals are built, the way they move, how they survive in a semi dessert.

The zebras are quite nervous, the whole time they start running from the waterhole, to then carefully come back.
