• Day 105 - San Jose CR

August 14, 1974 in Costa Rica

(Ursula) Büsi has become a flattering creature. He comes in the middle of the night and cuddles himself between Heinz and me. We can’t really be cross with him.

The rain stopped, and the sky looked so clear that I went for a swim early in the morning.

Shortly after breakfast, we departed with Wolfgang & Barbara for San Jose. We stopped at Volkswagen to purchase spare parts and at the Swiss, Consulate to pick up the mail.

Lastly, we found a super-Mercado where we stocked up on food. We were surprised at how much more expensive everything was.

Lunch was at a Spanish restaurant Mr. Tiesch from the Dolphin had recommended. The food was indeed delicious, just as he promised.

I liked San Jose. It was slightly Americanized, clean, and seemed well organized. Driving out of town toward Panama, we passed many new developments with single-family homes. Costa Rica seemed to have more middle class than other Central American countries.

We camped off the Panamerican Highway near Golfito, a few hours from the Panamanian border. Tomorrow we have a long drive ahead of us. Our boat to Colombia sails on the 19th.
