• The Alamo - San Antonio, Texas

    30. März in den USA ⋅ ☀️ 72 °F

Our journey kicked off in Dallas with Mike at the wheel of his comfy Lexus, while Aubra, Chad, and I settled into the backseat. We swung by Hillsborough to pick up Terry and Curt, then hit the road south on Highway 35. Not long after, the skies opened up, and heavy rain followed us nearly the entire way to our first stop—Kreuz Market BBQ in Lockhart, Texas—where we met up with Jim for some legendary barbecue lunch.

Fully fueled, we continued on to San Antonio, checking into the historic Menger Hotel. After a quick refresh, we made our way to the famous Menger Bar, where President Roosevelt once recruited Rough Riders (and supposedly had a near-miss with an assassin!). Drinks in hand, we soaked up the ambiance before heading out to explore The Alamo.

This legendary 1836 battleground saw a small but determined group of Texans—including James Bowie and Davy Crockett—stand against the Mexican army. Outnumbered and outgunned, they held out for 13 days before being overrun, cementing their place in Texas history with the battle cry: “Remember the Alamo!”

From there, we strolled along the San Antonio Riverwalk, taking in the vibrant atmosphere before landing at Mi Tierra Cafe, an iconic Mexican restaurant, where we dug into a feast of delicious, authentic cuisine.

Back at the hotel, the evening wrapped up poolside with a “planning meeting” (aka storytelling and drinks) that stretched well past 9:00 PM. I think our newest geezer recruit, Terry Hatcher, got a proper introduction to the group’s unique mix of personalities, humor, and—most importantly—our unwavering dedication to good times and great company!

Stay tuned for more tomorrow's adventures …
