Grand Rapids

Our final day was an easy peasy 45-minute drive from Holland to Grand Rapids Airport, where we returned our rental car. Over the course of the trip, we covered 958 miles, and our Hyundai Hybrid sipped just $91.55 worth of gas. Not bad at all!

We arrived much too early for our 1:13 PM flight, so we settled into the comfortable seating area at Gate 19 and celebrated the end of another great adventure with a Mimosa.

The flight home was short and uneventful. Our friend and neighbor, Mike, was waiting for us at DFW. Stepping outside into the 96°F heat felt like opening the door to a furnace. Welcome back to Texas!

Looking back, this Great Lakes road trip met our expectations. From towering sand dunes and pristine beaches to charming harbor towns, historic lighthouses, and Mackinac Island’s timeless atmosphere, every day brought something new to discover. We returned home with plenty of photos, wonderful memories, and a growing appreciation for the natural beauty and friendly people we met. It was a trip we won’t soon forget.
