    October 14, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

  • Cossack & Wickham

    October 18, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 36 °C

A day trip to the abandoned town of Cossack. Originally the old Port and location of the pearling industry before moving the luggers to Broome.

As the wharf built up sediment new jettys were built at Wickham and Dampier and the town was closed.

The buildings have been restored and it was a lovely little place (even in 41 degrees!!!) 🔥 🥵

We had a swim at the beach all on our own and then headed to Wickham where we drove past the loading operation to process the iron ore for shipping 🚢

  • Exmouth

    October 31, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

So excited to arrive in Exmouth!

We visited the Ningaloo Centre & Aquarium that had some really interesting history about the town and the 2nd largest reef in Australia.

It was fascinating to learn about the colonisation of the area mainly by American Naval Troops due to the radio station created at the tip of the peninsula after WWII!

It was a real blend of American and Australian culture celebrating all the special holidays for both countries each year and integrating the Naval base into everyday life in the town.

We finished the day with a little 'Trick or Treating' round the van park. Lottie's handmade Robot outfit was incredible and Tom was some sort of bandit!!! 🎃 🎃 🎃

  • Whale Shark Tour

    November 7, 2023, Indian Ocean ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

    Wow!!! What a day!

It started at about 2.30am with a thunderstorm.... which started a bushfire not far from our camp ground 😳 by 4.30am people were banging on each other's doors to warn them of the danger.... cue no sleep 😴

But bright eyed and bushy tailed nonetheless, we got on the bus at 7.30am to start our reef adventure!

It started with a great little snorkel out on the reef and then a drive into open water to swim with the whale sharks if we saw any as its the end of the season and by now they are usually gone🤞

With a spotter plane over head to direct the crew we didn't get to swim with 1 but 3!!! It was a perfect calm day and unheard of this time of year to see so many!

What an incredible experience to swim alongside these 7m giant fish!

Amazing food, 2 amazing snorkels on the reef and 4 swims with the whale sharks!!!!

So grateful for this experience together ❤️

  • Stuck in Exmouth

    November 8, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

With the bushfires all around we ended up having to stay put in Exmouth for a couple of extra days...

We got stuck in more ways than one!

First.... I got the car bogged in sand on a track to the beach looking for turtles with the girls 🐢 with no phone service so had to flag down a lovely family that helped me to dig it out and use the car mats and lots of pushing to get it out...

Then hitched a ride back to the campsite to tell Chris so he could find someone with Max tracks for a rescue mission to get it back. Not my proudest moment 🤦‍♀️

Then no less than 24hrs later we're on our way out of Exmouth (50km South) and blow 2 tyres 🤪

Luckily only the outer tyre was completely shot and Chris managed to patch up the inner. We were grateful that a guy pulled up to help out which saved a lot of extra stress and pressure. 3hrs later we're back in Exmouth again for the 3rd time and lucky enough found a garage with 2 perfect tyres that were fitted that afternoon!

We finally left Friday to head south taking a huge detour to get around the bushfires to get to Carnarvon.....

The kids loved the frozen fruit ice lollies covered in chocolate!

Then we did a visit to the cactus farm on the way home! Incredible garden of specimens including a whale skeleton! 🐋 🌵

What an incredible interactive museum with a blow up planetarium, Apollo pod simulation, lots of games and activities for the kids to do, a green screen for a photo walking on the moon.... and so much more!

Not to mention Buzz the friendly cat at the counter that the girls absolutely loved.... AND the fact that current staff are also travellers from CQ that knew friends of ours in Capella! Small world!

  • Denham Ocean Aquarium

    November 17, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

We visited the ocean aquarium this morning which was a small place with incredibly knowledgeable staff and an ongoing in person tour all day long to talk you through every tank.

It was absolutely brilliant and I couldn't believe that it held the kids attention the whole time we were there.

So much information about the different fish, sharks and other rays etc. It was interesting to learn so much about all the deadly sea creatures and see them up close...

  • Kalbarri - Blue Holes

    November 19, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

With 30km winds and 42 degree temps today we headed to the beach as it wasn't very pleasant at the van... and we didn't think going into the national park for some walks was a great idea!

Blue holes was a hit... lots of rock pools right on the sandy beach to snorkel and swim in!

Kids had a great morning and Sasha loved it. She was so hot she dug a hole and the kids buried her (which I think she quite enjoyed to cool down!). She didn't come out for a good 15mins!
