Day 38. Cairns.We're in Cairns for a 2nd

We're in Cairns for a 2nd day. And what a great day it was! We went to the Great Barrier Reef to snorkel. The skies looked a bit ominous as we were leaving the harbor, but by the time we got to the Reef (about 1½ hour boat ride), we were greeted with sunshine. We transferred from the large boat to the larger "pontoon" which was where we spent the afternoon. We had 3 hours to snorkel, go on the semi-submersible and/or the glass bottom boat, eat a nice buffet lunch, and listen to the on-board marine biologists talk about the Reef. It was very impressive. Unfortunately, the water was a bit green and mirkie from all the rain they've been having, but at least we had sunshine for our snorkeling.
