Shuanglin Temple

Today we took a day trip and visited the famous Shuanglin Temple. Right outside of Pingyao and about a 20 min cab ride. It's known for its collection of over 2,000 intricately crafted clay statues, many of which date back to the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. The temple is about 6 kilometers southwest of Pingyao and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Ancient City of Pingyao.

In addition to interesting architecture and history, there were art students molding figures from clay. They drew inspiration from the statues of the prominent temple guardians - a favorite of mine!Read more
