This has been a dream trip for many years. Now that Darrell is retired we decided to do 1/2 of the trip out West since I am still working and we can only go for 2 weeks.

We went on a drive through Custer State Park this evening in hopes to see buffalo.
Boy....did we see buffalo! Hundreds of them feeding right by road. We had to wait about 2o minutes for them move so we could continue our drive! There were lots of babies in the herd.Read more

We also got to see a field of prairie dogs, pronghorns and deer. The land was endless!
Custer State Park is 71,000 acres and has 1300 head of buffalo!

The Mammoth Site

This is an active excavating site
The mammoths died in a sink hole
First bones found in 1974 when digging for a housing project. In third picture you can see red ball hanging from ceiling...that is where the first bone was found..and you can see how deep they are still digging.
They have found bones from 61 mammoths to date.

They had wildfire in September 2017 burning 1500 acres.
