    Romanesque art is one of the periods of medieval art.
    The Middle Ages extends from the fall of the Roman Empire in the 5th century to the traditionally accepted date of 1492, which corresponds to the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus.

    During this period, Romanesque art only lasted some 200 years, from the years round 1000 to the 1200s.

    Gothic art followed in the early 1140s in the Paris area on the construction site of Saint-Denis Abbey,
    but sometimes it happened much later according to the regions.
