    The Real Jardín Botánico de Madrid covers 8 hectares (about 20 acres) and houses approximately 5,000 species of living plants, with total collections including about 90,000 individual plants and flowers, plus 1,500 trees. Admission €4.00 each.

    Next we visited the free Parque del Buen Retiro, which is Madrid’s most famous and expansive urban park.

    It covers approximately 125 hectares (about 309 acres), making it roughly twice the size of New York’s Central Park.

    Retiro is renowned for its grand avenues, historic monuments, rose gardens, and the iconic Estanque (a large artificial lake where one can rent rowboats).
