  • Elliston to Port Lincoln

    February 27, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Mark has finally caught a squid.

We stayed in Elliston at one of the best caravan parks. I loved it for its luscious green grass. Mark's mum was born in Elliston we were hoping to find out some information on the town unfortunately there isn't a lot of historical information.
We did the cliff top sculpture drive it is amazing.
Next stop was Farm Beach. We tried our hand at beach fishing, we caught nothing. We did go to Gallipoli Beach (where the movie was filmed) the track was very tight and the car got a few more pin stripes.
We took a day trip into Coffin Bay to get some oysters for Mark's birthday.
Next we spent some time in Port Lincoln. We caught a few squid (Mark is a semi professional squidder) and a huge crab.

  • Moonlight Bay To Rapid Bay

    March 6, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

From Port Lincoln we stayed at a free camp at Moonlight Bay right near the beach. We went fishing and i caught a King George Whiting. We had some amazing sun rises and sets.
We moved onto Tumby Bay and then Port Neill where we caught a couple of squid and two cuttlefish. (Cuttlefish are definitely harder to clean and messier the ink is so much thicker).
We moved onto Whyalla in 40° heat. We have never been so hot. Thankfully we were in a caravan park on a powered site. (The caravan park lost power 3 times)
We tried our hand at raking for crabs but low tide was in the middle of the day and it was just too hot.
We moved onto Port Wakefield where we raked for crabs at Thompson Beach.
To rake for crabs you walk out at low tide (about 1km and rake in about ankle to knee deep water sometimes getting nipped in the process. Yes i squealed like a girl. Then after an hour or two you walk back up the beach to the car) fun, yes tiring, most definitely. We will do it again the next time we come back to South Australia.
We moved on to Rapid Bay which is amazing. Had a couple of swims and tried squidding. We were on a beachside site.
It has turned cold great for sleeping. Onto Tailem Bend to visit family.

  • Tailem Bend to Mount Gambier

    March 20, 2024 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 18 °C

We had a great catch up with David and Sharon. We moved onto Kingston SE. We love this town. It has a cheap camp right near the jetty and the best butcher and now we know the best pub food.
We went fishing off the jetty a few times and caught trevally and blue spotted mackerel.
We then moved onto Mount Gambier for Easter. (We were around this time last year on the way to WA) The caravan park has alpacas. They are so cute.
We went down to Cape Northumberland to South Australia's Southernmost Point.
We had lunch at the Victoria pub in Port MacDonnell they had the best chart explaining all the glass sizes around Australia. Did a little fishing before going back to the van.
Finally found some pickling onions now Mark needs to wait 2 months before he can eat them.
From Mount Gambier we head into Victoria.
