    Back to Canad

    June 18, 2016 in China ⋅ ⛅ 82 °F

I can't believe I've been away for 5 months already. I'm sad that the travels are almost over :( . I'm leaving Guangzhou on the flight to Vancouver now, will be there for about 24 hours, then home to Saskatchewan. It's funny, we depart Guangzhou at 1300 on the 18th, and will be arriving in Vancouver at 1100 the same day. 😕 confusingRead more

    Weekend in Phu Qouc Island

    June 4, 2016 in Vietnam ⋅ ⛅ 88 °F

We went by night bus and high speed boat to visit this quiet island for the weekend. Not too much to do here, but it's a nice place, and not quite as crazy as the rest of Vietnam. There are some nice warm beaches here also! We flew back to Ho Chi Minh City, 1 hour versus 8 hours by land and sea.

    Nara

    May 22, 2016 in Japan ⋅ ⛅ 73 °F

After leaving Hinase I headed back to the farm at Sonobe for a couple weeks, so I decided to visit Nara, Japan's capital before Kyoto. Unfortunately I only had about 3 hours to visit after the 2.5 hour train ride so I just walked to one of the sites. I recommend spending at least a day here.
Also there are a lot of deer here that chase people around for snacks. Another thing there is a lot of here is しかふん lol 😀Read more

    Couple days in Tokyo

    May 18, 2016 in Japan ⋅ ☀️ 72 °F

Spent a couple more days in Tokyo before my flight back to Vietnam. Stayed in an old run down hotel in Asakusa, that's ok though because it was cheap (for Japan) and only a 5 minute walk from Sensō-ji! Then visited my Japanese family, visited an Okinawa bar, walked around Golden Gai, went out for an all night Karaoke session, fell asleep after eating breakfast, but woke up in time to make the train to the airport with time to spare! Couldn't sleep though, even after being up all night.Read more

    Miyajiyama

    April 20, 2016 in Japan ⋅ ⛅ 64 °F

This is a fantastic peaceful place to visit! I highly recommend it. After crossing from Miyajima-guchi you exit the ferry and walk through a quiet tourist village, where there are wild (tame) deer sitting around looking bored and eating paper. Then there is a nice long beech. When I got there, the beach was full of people digging for shellfish, and tourists taking photos of them, and also of the Torii gate of course. I was watching hermit crabs in a ride pool, when an American couple dropped a starfish in front of me and asked if the people on the beach were looking for them. I have no idea why they asked me that.
If I had known Miyajima would be so nice I would have gone earlier and spent the day there. As it was, I got there at 1300 left at 1600 for Iwakuni, arrived in Iwakuni just in time to see the bridge before dark and realize there is much more to see than the bridge; then go back to the station and almost miss the last train back to Hiroshima.
    It was a good day.

    Hiroshima

    April 19, 2016 in Japan ⋅ 🌙 59 °F

Arrived in Hiroshima at 0630 this morning. It's an interesting city, and the peace park is really nice. It's amazing and strange to think that only 70 years ago this place was destroyed by the first fission bomb to ever be used on a population, and now it's a busy city where people live their lives normally. The domed building was approximately 150m NW of the site of the explosion, and the bomb was detonated at an altitude of 580m.Read more
