• The crossing

    June 3, 2024 in New Zealand ⋅ 🌙 9 °C

It's been a pretty easy day. We sailed out of Wellington on time and the crossing was good. Robyn was heard to say "that was a pretty good crossing" We spent most of the time in the Strait outside in the fresh air, it was cold but we had on a few layers. Sat inside in the sun as we cruised up the sounds.
Gusto was closed and we had lunch at a busy Cafe near the waters edge - and coffee too. No dramas driving to Kaikoura - the last 60km in glorious sunshine. I got petrol at a Caltex garage in Blenheim and got 22cents a litre off the posted price of $2.68 - not sure why.
Got into Kaikoura went to the supermarket on the way in and got supplies, including pies for dinner. We decided to drive around the coast, south past town and had a wander - took some photos and waited for the sun to set. Lots of people out there including a group of serious photographers.
In our motel now and watching TV from our bed.
We had a short discussion before - are we on a holiday? Not sure.......
