    Last Day

    August 26, 2016 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

Decided to go down to Granville Island. Temps today supposed to reach 30 degrees or exceed. It was already hot when I left hotel at 9. Wandered around for a few hours then back to hotel for a nap. Have late check out so at 1.30 set off to wander the streets. Would be lovely to go to waterfront and read but have to climb back up the hill. Decided too hot as I have to dress for New Zealand weather as well. Gone back to Banana Leaf Malaysian Restaurant for late lunch. Still have one and half hours to go. Would certainly recommend this place. Have yummy cocktails at reasonable prices, good service and nicely presented food.Read more

    Van Dusen Botanical Gardens

    August 25, 2016 in Canada ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Decided to walk to gardens. Perhaps not such a good idea. Took only about 35 to 40 minutes but all up hill! Now sitting in cafe with iced coffee and food. Temperatures are already rising towards 27 to 28 degrees.

This is a lovely area with education facilities for children, a maze, a squirrel and beautiful rooms of flowers and trees. The waterfall was not running more than a trickle, understandable with the dry, fine weather they have been having.

    Capolina Bridge

    August 25, 2016 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

Well, I can say I have walked this now. Have to say I thought the swing bridge on the way to Jasper was more impressive. Mind here, being so close to Vancouver it is very busy. Guess it will be the same at Grouse Mountain. The area is certainly set up to entertain, with tree top walks and trails. The area is all marked out so is very safe. Too many people for this Kiwi.Read more

    Capalano Salmon Hatchery

    August 24, 2016 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

This hatcery has been set up by the government to try and preseve numbers of salmon heading up river for spawning. On the Fraser River the numbers are down to 1 million from over 10 only a few decades ago. The area is lovely here. Part of the problem was the building of a dam in the river which meant salmon could not get up stream to the spawning grounds.Read more

    Lumberjack show

    August 24, 2016 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

This 40 minute show depicts the work of the lumberjack in past times in an entertaining and interactive way. After show I wandered over to see the two grizzly bears, Coho And Grinder. Unfortunately they had decided to stay in the shade and rest. Wise bears. The views of the city from Grouse Mountaon is panaramic.Read more

    Capilano Bridge

    August 24, 2016 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Was a bit disappointed in that felt the Sea to Sky bridge was more scary. The view from the bridge to the river below is well worth it though. You can walk the tree tops, tracks around the river edge or cliff side on the start side of the river . All in all interesting but very busy with people.Read more
