Ancona to Bolzano

Another day of train travel and we are delighted to say, our last! We left Ancona, heading for Bologna where we had 16 mins to swap trains. Fortunately the next train was delayed 10 mins - what joy, because we had to go up and down various levels to find platform 16.
We sat next to a delightful man - Professor of Pure Mathematics (Italian) living for 30 years in the USA. He was speaking at Trento University to research students.
The train trip from the southern Puglia region to northern Italy has been fascinating. To see the dramatically different landscapes - flat down south to this region with majestic mountains and lush vegetation. We can also see the changes in socio-economic status between the poorer south and the obviously wealthy north.
We waited for 30 mins for a taxi at Bolzano train station in drizzling rain but we were rewarded with our destination - Hotel Magdalena Hof. Kerrie swam in the hotel pool and we then enjoyed a delicious meal at the Hotel outdoor restaurant. We have 5 nights here before we start our next bike trip. Tomorrow, weather permitting, we will explore the Dolomites.Read more
