    Our Final Night

    May 17, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

For our final night we had a lovely meal at the Watergate Restaurant in Port Douglas. A fitting place to enjoy our last meal with a bottle of Champagne, and to remember the adventures we had during this dream holiday of a life-time.Read more

Swimming in the Great Barrier Reef

    May 17, 2019 ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Our final day could not have been spent in a better place. A major bucket-list tick-off. The Great Barrier Reef.

The trip out was a bumpy ride, with many of the passengers getting sea sick, but at the end of the ride we ended up out in the middle of the sea, with no land to be seen. All around us only sea and reef.

We took a trip around the reed in a submerged, glass-bottomed boat, then got in the water ourselves, swimming around the reef amongst the many fish.

The trip back, we stood together on the top-deck of the Catamaran, looking at the approaching coast-line, with the mountains and rain-forest beyond, knowing this was the last day and it would be awhile before we got to see these sights again.

Where the Jungle Meets the Coral

    May 16, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

We finally arrived at our northern most point of the trip, where the rain forest meets the coral, Cape Tribulation.

Coming out of the rain forest, in the rain, out on to the beach, to see the point of land Captain Cook spotted whilst stranded out to sea.Read more

    Port Douglas

    May 15, 2019 in Australia ⋅ 🌧 25 °C

Our final base for the trip was Port Douglas, in far north Queensland. This leg of the trip was seen as just an add-on with neither of us expecting too much. But once again, Australia delivered.

Port Douglas was a lovely base from which to travel and we found our final "local" pub of the trip, sitting out back in our own private little rain forest.Read more

    Hamilton Island Road Trip

    May 13, 2019 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 23 °C

After driving around Brisbane and out to the rain forest earlier in the holiday, we decided to take another road-trip, this time around Hamilton Island in a golf buggy.

Driving up to One Tree Hill to take in the vista views, stopped off at the little lake at Point Henning, then over to the airport.

Travelling at a top speed of 20 Kmh every road on the island was driven within half an hour.

We were supposed to leave the island that night, but a storm had arrived and all flights out were cancelled. Oh well, we just had to spend another night in paradise!
