• Thjofafoss and other travels....

Today we decided to travel a little back on the path we have already taken to see a waterfall that looked to be very photogenic. I informed Graham that the trip should be around 50km - not too far ..... but I made a rooky mistake. I am using 2 maps to navigate this trip, along with technology and with all this information our 50km route turned into about 200km one way. Using the highway name as the number of kilometres is not a good plan. Add to this that some recent hydroelectric installation had changed road paths made this waterfall difficult to find. Alas, all this effort was for little - not so impressive waterfall/rapids. The route back was more simple to follow and we got to see a sheep shelter that became something similar to a council meeting place back in the 1700s. Amazingly there is no protection for this cave and it is not locked or protected in any way and yet remains pristine. Our night was spent at Kirkjubaejarklaustur.En savoir plus
