    October 8, 2019 in Iceland ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

A few more waterfalls with interesting geology. Hraunfossar is a series of waterfalls formed by rivulets streaming over a distance of about 900 metres out of a lava field into the Hvítá river from ledges of less porous rock in the lava.Read more

  • Krosslaug

    October 8, 2019 in Iceland ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

Came across this lovely spot on the way to Thingvellir. I had just googled 'hot springs near me' and this one came up as being about 2 km away on our route. What good timing - it was a lucky find!

  • Thingvallavatn

    October 8, 2019 in Iceland ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

We thought that the best way to tackle the Golden Circle region would be to head to Gullfoss for the sunset but we did stop quickly in a parking area to take in the view of lake.

  • Strokkur Geysir

    October 8, 2019 in Iceland ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

We stopped here for about an hour trying to get well timed photo's and video. The effort was worth it.

  • Gullfoss

    October 8, 2019 in Iceland ⋅ ☁️ 9 °C

The amount of water flowing over this waterfall is huge - its very spectacular to watch. We still marvel at the amount of flowing water we are seeing on a day to day basis in this country.

This area has both geological and historical significance in Iceland. It has been the site of government and judiciary for Iceland since 1000 AD and its stories are significant but also gruesome. North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet along this fissure and are moving apart at a rate of 7mm / year.Read more

  • The Blue Lagoon

    October 10, 2019 in Iceland ⋅ ⛅ 6 °C

The last iconic Iceland experience for our holiday was an evening spent at the Blue Lagoon. We donned bathers and braved the cold weather to spend the next 1 1/2 hours floating around this glowing, warm bath. Whilst we were expecting that the experience might be a bit kitch, we were pleasantly surprised that we enjoyed the face mask and drink whilst floating about.
After our soak, we enjoyed a delicious, silver service meal at Lava restaurant before heading to our hotel in Keflavick for our last night in Iceland.
