  • Casa Batllo

    July 28, 2023 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 77 °F

We went to Casa Batllo, a UNESCO world heritage site, which is thought of as Gaudí's best works. It was originally a house made for the upper-class Batllo family and was designed in such a way that light reaches every corner of the building. Now, it serves as a museum-like structure describing its history, as well as Gaudí's.Read more

  • Templo de Debod

    July 30, 2023 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 90 °F

We went to Templo de Debod, an Egyptian temple in Madrid. This is an authentic Egyptian temple that Egypt gifted Spain in 1968. The walls are covered in images depicting kings interacting with the gods, and the smaller replica shows an aerial view of the entire structure.Read more

We spent the day doing a Hop-On-Hop-Off Bus Tour around the city, and this is an assortment of pictures I took either while on the bus or when we hopped off at different stops. There were 2 circuits the tour offered, a historical route and a modern one, and we rode both.Read more

  • Madrid Walking Tour

    July 31, 2023 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 84 °F

For our last day in Madrid, we did a walking tour. It was full of history and recommendations for restaurants from a local. Madrid was founded by Muslim Arabs in 850, and during that time, the city had an Arabic influence in its architecture. However, in the 1400s, a Catholic monarchy took power and began persecuting Jews and Muslims. This was the start of the Spanish Inquisition. To distance themselves from the Arabs, the ruling family refurbished the entire city into a more European-style area, destroying most of the Arabic influences. The first 2 pictures show one of the few buildings that still remain in that style, and the 3rd picture shows what was once a mosque, turned into a Christian Church, and the interesting contrasts between the 2 styles. We also saw Plaza Mayor and Puerta del Sol, two very important squares in Madrid. The remaining pictures are simply places I found appealing and pretty.Read more

  • Real Palacio

    July 31, 2023 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 90 °F

We visited Spain's Royal Palace, which has been partly turned into a museum as the royals no longer wanted such a large place to live. We toured about 30 rooms, but we're only allowed to take pictures in the entrance halls, I believe because the Palace is still used today for diplomatic relations and important ceremonies.Read more

  • Royal Cathedral

    July 31, 2023 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 93 °F

    August 2, 2023 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 86 °F

We started with going to the Plaza of the Virgen to see the fountain, Valencia Cathedral, and Basílica de la Mare de Déu dels Desemparats. The Basílica took almost 200 years to build, so the painted ceiling has a blend of multiple different artistic eras all in one.Read more

  • La Estrecha y La Longa de la Sela

    August 2, 2023 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 91 °F

We visited La Estrecha, the narrowest building in Europe and second in the world. We actually walked past it 3 times before we finally saw it because of how narrow it is, and the color blends with the surrounding building. We also visited the Silk Exchange building, where there was a bustling silk trade for many decades. Many important matters happened in this building and served as a diplomatic center during its prime.Read more

  • San Nicolás de Bari y San Pedro Mártir

    August 2, 2023 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 91 °F

Saint Nicholas Church is a modest, Gothic style building on the outside but holds a gorgeous, Baroque era masterpiece within. With the change of artistic eras came this unlikely mashup. This church began construction in the Gothic period, but its interior wasn't started until the Baroque time. The extravagance of the statues and altar are typical during this time frame.Read more

  • Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciéncies

    August 3, 2023 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 88 °F

Today, we went to the City of Arts and Sciences, which is a portion of Valencia that has become the modern area. We went to the Museo de las Ciencias or the Science Museum, which had a lot of interactive exhibits to explore. There were also some animals like incubators with chicken eggs and baby chicks hatching!🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣
We spent a couple of hours there and then went over to Hemiferíc, an IMAX theater to see "Flying Monsters," a short movie about dinosaurs that could fly and how the pterodactyl family became avian reptiles. I won't lie, I fell asleep almost immediately, not because it was boring, but because it was the perfect environment for a nap lol.
    🦖🦖🦖🦖🦖🦖🦖🦖🦖🦖🦖🦖🦖🦖🦖🦖
We finished off the day at the beach, which was nice and relaxing, because clouds were covering the sun and there was a breeze. Then the wind picked up, the waves got rougher, and the tide decided to come up and say hi. Arri got pulled into a riptide, and some man helped her, but as she was coming back to land, she was just being pummeled by waves. Then the tide surprised us all and came 30 ft up to soak all of our belongings, including my phone and our portable charger. Needless to say, we left right after that.
