Mostar means 'bridge keeper' as it began as the bridge linking two sides in an Ottoman trade route. The original bridge was destroyed in 1993 during the Bosnian war. It was rebuilt and became a UNESCO World Heritage site.
One side has a Croatian and Catholic feel while the other is Muslim.
There is a tradition (for the tourists) that men jump from the bridge into the river below.Read more
