  • Departing from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Next stop Virgin Gorda, BVI.
Interestingly, we only saw dolphins during our first day at sea. No more on this trip for 3094nm.We hooked a monster somewhere in the mid-Atlantic. Unfortunately, we didn't see it or land it.Land ho! Virgin Gorda, BVI.

Las Palmas to Virgin Gorda - 3094nm.

    Mar 8–28 in British Virgin Islands ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Vicki and I are often sailing alone, accompanied only by our aging wonder dog, Saylor. Fortunately, we had a guest aboard for each of our 3 previous Atlantic crossings, and this crossing is no exception. We were joined by Dr. Kate Morgan, a British GP we met in Panama in 2021. She expressed interest in sailing with us back then and we’ve kept in touch along the way. She spent 3 days aboard in the South of England in 2023 and she sailed with us offshore in Portugal in 2024. Welcome aboard, Kate!

We set sail from Las Palmas after taking on fuel, around 11am on 8th March 2025. We next made port at Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbour, 3094nm / 19days + 22hrs later. We had a fun and safe passage with mostly excellent weather and no major issues along the way, although quite a few nitnoid ones. One disappointment was the lack of wildlife we saw crossing the ocean this time - only a few birds here and there, only a few dolphin and no whales. And we didn’t catch a single fish. Nevertheless, we had a great experience. Where do we sign up to do it again!
