A Beautiful Day in the Arctic Circle

We awoke this morning to a beautifully clear day. After breakfast we collected our warm weather clothing walked down onto the frozen River Torne and watched the sun rising over the hills…at about 11.30! After a lunch of Swedish meatballs in the restaurant, we joined our first excursion, travelling by a snowmobile drawn sleigh to a local Sami herder village to learn about the reindeer and the Sami culture. We had the chance to feed the reindeer with moss and lichen and realised what entertaining animals they are. Finally we had a fun reindeer sleigh ride around a track followed by a snack of reindeer meat cooked over a log fire in a traditional Sami teepee.Läs mer
