    Lost valley

    September 21, 2024 in Switzerland ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

Once again we take advantage of the beautiful autumn weather and head into the Lauterbrunnen Valley.
From Stechelberg via the Obersteinberghotel to the Oberhornsee. (There's not much lake there...)
But the way back through the valley is incredible. A dream...

    Tanzbödeli

    September 7, 2024 in Switzerland ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

The “Tanzbödeli”, which translates as dancefloor, doesn't really have anything to do with dancing. But it does offer a magnificent view of the Lauterbrunnen Valley, making you want to dance for joy.

However, you have to work hard for the view.
We started in Stechelberg first to the Senifen Falls and then turned left.
The route now climbs steadily up to the Hotel Obersteinberg.
The Hotel Obersteinberg is a very cozy mountain hotel with few comforts but candlelight and kerosene lamps. And we definitely got the best plum cake with cream there. We could have lingered forever with this cake and this view.

But the Tanzbödeli was waiting for us. We fought our way up along the flank and then somehow on all fours.
The view into the Lauterbrunnen valley is the well-deserved reward for the drops of sweat.
We headed down towards the Sefinental... the 1400 m downhill was pretty tough on the knees and hiking poles are definitely a good idea.

Conclusion: a great tour, away from the hustle and bustle of the Lauterbrunnen valley.

  • Tent hike Gadelouisee

    August 31, 2024 in Switzerland ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Ever since I first visited Lake Gadeloui a few years ago, it has been a dream of mine to come up here with my tent for a night.
And this weekend the time had come. We quickly stocked up with a new tent and off we went. Two women on outdoor trails.
Starting from Gadmen, the route simply climbs up through a fairytale-like moss-covered fir forest. The hairpin bends never end. Finally, above the tree line, we take a break...two boys come towards us from above...one says to the other: "Now we have the steepest section"!
    Whaaaat? thanks for that.

And he was right... soon we were scrambling up the mountain on all fours. It doesn't want to end.
But at some point we arrive and there it is in front of us... Lake Gadenlouisee...

Find a pitch and then pitch the tent by trial and error.

The best part comes, an aperitif with a fantastic view of the Swiss Dolomites.

Unfortunately, clouds roll in and the sunset takes place without a spectacle of colour.

Thankfully, I quickly fall into a deep sleep until the gusts of wind start. From this moment on, the tent is flapping and my thoughts are only focussed on whether I'm about to be blown over the cliffs.

Well, every night has an end. We pack up and descend the same way again.

    Ibexes at sunset

    August 23, 2024 in Switzerland ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

There are several beautiful places to enjoy the sunset in Switzerland.

We wanted to stretch our legs after work and chose the Niederhorn.

From Beatenberg, we took the sweaty path along the left-hand ridge. The forest is like something out of a fairy tale and offers a view into the depths every now and then.
Once we reached the top, a few ibex were cavorting near the restaurant.
The Niederhorn also offers a fantastic view of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.
The sunset over Lake Thun is a moment that will make your heart sing...

Lenk - In the power of water

    July 13, 2024 in Switzerland ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

    The hike begins in Lenk.
The village of Lenk lies at the top of the Simmental in the Bernese Oberland, in the wide, flat valley floor in front of a beautifull valley head in the Alps, the Wildstrubel.

A short bus ride takes us to Simmen Falls.
The magnicifant Simmen Falls present themselves after just a few meters. Following the river Simme, you experience the power of water again and again.

The source of the Simme lies at Alp Rezliberg. Visible with the seven fountains. The "Sibe Brünne", a magical waterfall, is a confirmed source of power and a wonderful place to linger.

A further ascent leads to Langermatte before the descent along the Iffigbach begins.

The unspoilt natural stream with its gorge-like sections leads to the magnificent Iffigenalp waterfall. Mighty and powerfull, it thunders down over the rocks.
The route continues through meadows to the "Lenkersee" and through the village back to the railway station.
