What a mine!

We enter Nasafjället, which also means we’re back to Sweden. There’s an old silver mine that we explored. Down by the cabin we learned that five other hikers made it there this year so far. We also learned about the history of this place and the insanity of mankind. Mining bitcoins doesn’t seem so uniquely crooked from this perspective anymore. This whole area is still contaminated and poisoned four hundred years later. Lots of people lost their lives at this place. People were given the choice of either going to war or work at the mine. Shifts were three months long, since more time up there in those harsh conditions meant death to too many. Sami people were forced to facilitate transportation using their reindeer, which often died from the heavy loads they had to carry.
