    Birthday Dinner

    September 8, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

I can think of no better place to for my birthday dinner than the Hartstone Inn. When Brian and I first visited here, it was for a culinary vacation and we spent the day in the kitchen with the chef preparing the evening’s meal. Tonight, we just enjoy the fruits of everyone else’s labor. It’s s three course dinner and we get to choose what we’d like for each course from a chefs menu. Can you say yum.Read more

  • Time to say goodbye

    November 21, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 11 °C

Our Tri-Corner trip has come to an end. It’s been a great vacation, as they say, all good things must come to an end. We’ve managed to save some things for “next time.” Jamestown, Monument Avenue, the Edgar Allan Poe Museum and Millie’s Diner in Richmond as well as the vampires grave in Hollywood Cemetery we missed this round. Cheers!Read more

Designed in 1847 and opened in1849. The final resting place of two (or three) presidents (James Monroe and John Tyler), Jefferson Davis, one vampire, and 18,000 Confederate soldiers.

Overflowing with hauntingly beautiful funerary statues, Hollywood Cemetery attracts photographers as well as those out for a Sunday stroll among the 135 acres of rolling hills overlooking the James River and the downtown Richmond area. It offers scenic views as well as poignant spots for reflection in the Gothic landscape.Read more

  • Historic Williamsburg - Day 2

    November 20, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

A sunny, clear day. Enjoyed visiting with other tradesman like the barber and the wig maker. Enjoyed a delightful outdoor play about a female astronomer Caroline Herschel, born in 1750, who discovered several comets.

Also, enjoyed an interactive presentation with President Thomas Jefferson. We were told by people sitting beside us that this Jefferson was the best and would soon be retiring.

  • Historic Williamsburg

    November 19, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

Our first day wandering the streets of this historic city. Spent time with the tradesmen in their shops. Saw great interactive theatre at the Capitol where we participated in events leading up to the moment Virginia said yes to independence.

At the courthouse, sat in on some re-enactments of actual cases brought before the court at Williamsburg. One was a man who had not attended church in a month 😳.

My favorite was a play about the complex relationship between Jefferson and Jupiter. They started out friends as little boys but ended as servant and master. The actors wrote the play as well.

Watched the fife and drum corps as they performed on the courthouse green as the sun set.

“The Dinsmore Boutique Inn takes its name from the home’s architect and builder, James Dinsmore. Perhaps no other person had as much of a hand in shaping the famous presidential homes of Virginia, and the University of Virginia than Dinsmore. This house is a standing testament to his craftsmanship and legacy. “Read more
