• Day 4 - Barafu Camp (base camp)

    October 10 in Tanzania ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

Trek Data: 10km, 5,5 hours (8h on the board)
    Starting Elevation: 3900hm
    Finishing Elevation: 4670hm

We woke up quite early to hit the road before the other groups. Next to Baranco camp is famous Baranco Wall and as many trekkers are not so familiar with technical climbs, traffic jams are very common. We hit the road at 7:15 and we could pass easily. I loved the Baranco Wall it was fun and as a plus on the top of Baranco Wall we were rewarded with amazing views of Kilimanjaro and Mt. Meru. From the top of Baranco Wall you can already see the next campsite Karanga. Usually people sleeps there and continue next day to base camp (Barafu camp). Due to the plan changes we only stayed in Karanga for lunch and then continued to Barafu. The path to Karanga was nice, many up and downs and great views. As always here the weather in the afternoon changes rapidly and it becomes cold and cloudy, sometimes it even rains.

The path to Barafu was not something special. It was cloudy and you only walk up for 2,5 hours 😂. In base camp we were surprised by snowstorm which lasted almost till midnight 🙈 what a nightmare as it got even colder…

George gave me a good briefing about the summit push and then I went to sleep very early (around 18:30) because we had to wake up at 23:30 for summit push 😬🥶.
