  • Mexico City and flight home ✈️

    14 janvier, Mexique ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

After the long sleep I felt much better. We had again an amazing breakfast in our hotel and then left for small walk to the city center. We passed the park Alameda Central, Palacio de Bellas Artes, China Town, Post Office Palace and House of Tiles. At the end we arrived to the monumental Plaza de la Constuticion with the Cathedral and Palacio National. The best view of the whole square you can get from the rooftop of the hotel Majestic. Around 12 o’clock we were back in the hotel and got our bags and called uber. Our time in Mexico has come to an end! Mexico City‘s main airport has a closed proximity to the city we needed only about 20 minutes by taxi to the airport. Airport is also quite small and we went through the security controls super fast!

14:55 we were boarding to our first flight to Miami which takes surprisingly only 2,5 hours. After that we will have a long night flight to London before finally reaching our final destination Munich 😍! I feel a bit better but let’s hope I can manage all the flights without any problems 🥲.

    15 janvier, Allemagne ⋅ ☁️ 1 °C

20 hours later we arrived back to our apartment in Munich! It was a long and exhausting journey and I feel unfortunately worse than before in Mexico…

Here a quick summary of the journey:

    - 27 days
    - 7 flights
    - 7 ADO bus rides
    - 4 ferries (to Isla Mujeres and to Holbox)
    - swim at 4 cenotes, Hierve el Agua, beaches of Gulf of Mexico and Carribean sea
    - 8 different accommodations
    - 10.000x tacos and tortillas 😆
    - 27x guacamole and few bottles of Mezcal
    - 2 day car rentals
    - 2 visits of Hairdresser

The trip was nice but we have not become a huge Mexico fans and especially Yucatán was extremely busy and overpriced. Due to close proximity to the US many things have been adapted, e.g. tipping culture ~ it’s expected to pay up to 20% tip sometimes you are not even asked and they put 20% tip automatically on the bill. Even in all inclusive resorts you are expected to tip after each drink, room cleaning… something we didn’t know and didn’t like. Uber is not working in most of the places as the drivers agreed on high fix prices for the rides. Also the weather was not as good as I thought. The temperatures hardly reached 30 degrees and it was windy most of the times making it perfect for sightseeing but maybe too cold sometimes for swimming.
