    Phú Quốc

    January 19 in Vietnam ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

Arrived in Phu Quoc yesterday morning after a long journey. West Jet flight from Kelowna to Vancouver was delayed 3 times so arrived 3 hours late. Lucky for us we had lots of time before our flight left Vancouver. Cathay Pacific Airways was wonderful. Staff is amazing, 2 hot meals and beverages if you wish. Smoothest take off and landing I have ever experienced. Hong Kong airport is massive but easy to get around. We took escalators to the train that took us to the area of our departure Gate for flight to Vietnam. HK Express was also a good flight.

Phu Quoc airport was super busy. Lots of lineups for customs then grab your bags and line up to get bags scanned before we left the airport but then our driver was waiting and took us to our hotel.

Sun Viet Hotel and Spa is our home for next 9 days. Right on the beach, we have a balcony facing the ocean but lots of palm trees block the view. Could be worse.

We took a stroll down the street to try to get our bearings then walked back on the beach. We sat at a beach bar and soaked up the heat and had a cool drink. Was cloudy and had rained earlier that morning but was still 29 degrees. Forgot to take pictures. Hopefully I will get better at remembering to take pictures as we go. We had a 30 minute rest then booked our first grab ride to the night market. Wandered around for a bit then exhaustion settled in. We walked back to our resort, took a shower and went to bed. Had a good rest and up around 630 this morning ready for the next adventure. Stay tuned...

  • Phú Quốc

    Jan 21–Feb 15 in Vietnam ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

Yesterday was our full day here in Phu Quoc. Had a nice breakfast at our hotel. You can have almost anything you want. Some food choices we would normally have for dinner. We took a grab and headed to the southern part of the island to Sao beach. Beautiful white sand and crystal clear waters. Found a couple beach chairs and spent some time soaking up the sun 🌞 and swimming in the beautiful waters. Had some banana pancake. You break off a piece and it's like potato chips. Great light snack. Took a taxi back to the hotel and spent the next couple hours poolside so we could watch the sun set at 6:05. We walked down the road a bit and found a nice place to have dinner. We had garlic rice, breaded shrimp and chicken in fish sauce. We were exhausted so another early night for us.Read more

  • Fun days in the sun

    January 23 in Vietnam ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Yesterday we took a grab to Long beach. 20 km stretch of Golden sand and turquoise water. We each had a one hour long full body massage which we thoroughly enjoyed. Swam in the beautiful ocean and soaked up the sun. Was 30 degrees. We had a couple drinks and some amazing food at The Beach Shack and before heading back to our hotel Harry enjoyed a bear at East West Brewing Co. For dinner Harry enjoyed a seafood salad. He wasn't a fan of the octopus.Read more

    January 24 in Vietnam ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Lots of walking was done yesterday. We went to Sunset Town and took the cable car over to Sun World Hon Thom Paradise Island. This is the world's longest 3 wire cable car ride 7,899.9m. Walked around the amusement park and Harry took a ride on the wooden rollercoaster. We continued our stroll through to Aquatopia Asia's leading water park with 6 theme areas and 20 rides. If we were younger or had our grandkids with us I can see how you would spend a whole day there. So many rides!Read more

  • Sunset Town

    January 24 in Vietnam ⋅ 🌙 26 °C

After our return trip on the cable car we walked around a bit in Sunset Town and enjoyed the entertainment all around you. With your cable car ticket you get 1 glass of Sun Craft beer or Watermelon juice. Because I am a nice wife and I do not drink beer Harry got to enjoy 2 glasses of beer. We had alight dinner then went for a walk on the Kissing Bridge.
We purchased tickets to Symphony of the Sea which you view from the Kissing Bridge. Jet ski stunts and aerial acrobatics on fly board show with fireworks and lasers to music. It was absolutely amazing to watch and experience. What an end to the day!

  • A day in DaNang

    January 30 in Vietnam ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Yesterday we walked around in the morning then met up with Roland and Connie neighbors at the Shuswap. They showed as around DaNang and pointed out some great places to eat. We walked the beach with them and may have stopped a couple times for a few drinks. Haha. Unfortunately when we got back to our hotel I realized I hadn't taken any pictures of them. I do have a few pictures I have taken to add. Off today to Bana Hills by cable car so stay tuned!Read more

  • BaNa Hills

    January 30 in Vietnam ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Took a shuttle from our hotel to BaNa Hills today then took the cable car to the top of the mountain which was about 10-15 minutes long. You look down and see majestic waterfalls and the jungle all around.
We walked around Sun Paradise Land then took another cable car over to the Golden Bridge. This place is absolutely amazing. a must see!!
We then returned to the main area and walked around and saw the Saint Denis Church, took a ride on the Alpine Coaster ( I was one to suggest it but then I wanted to chicken out once we purchased the tickets). We walked the steps to the very top of the Linh Chua Linh Tu Temple to reach 5,000 feet above sea level. Wow!!!.....what more can we say.
While up there at times the sun was shining, we had clouds and fog. Was so cool to see how the weather changed so much.
I will have to add pictures as another footnote as we took alot of them. Once the day was done we headed back down on 2 different cable cars. What an amazing day but my feet hurt!

  • Saturday in DaNang

    January 31 in Vietnam ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Today started out at the beach soaking up the 🌞 sun.. then we swam in the pool and soaked up the 🌞 sun some more. Tonight we went to the night market. Found some gifts for the grandkids had a light dinner and rolled mango ice cream. We then went to the bridge to find a good spot to wait. At 9 on Friday Saturday and Sunday nights they close the bridge for the fire shooting dragon. The dragon ends up spraying water at the end. Luckily we picked a great spot and the light wind was in our favor so we didn't get wet.Read more

  • Lady Buddha

    February 1 in Vietnam ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

This morning we went to see the Lady Buddha. Tallest statue in Vietnam along with Linh Hung Pagoda gardens. There were a lot of monkeys hanging around. One tried to grab a small child a dad was holding. Yikes!! We rubbed the Buddha's belly to invite positive energy, joy and good luck into ones lives. The weather was not the best, it's a rainy day today. We walked down the road a bit to a museum of an old fishing village. Didn't take many pictures there as you're walking on rock paths in the rain so needed to concentrate.Read more

  • our afternoon

    February 1 in Vietnam ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

We decided to go to a large market this afternoon and do some shopping with it being a rainy day. Found some great deals, I got some Hoka sneakers and a rain jacket for around $26. Cad each. Plus a couple more things for the grandkids. Harry got a new T-shirt for $5. We decided to walk for a bit along the river and then walked back over the dragon bridge before catching a grab back to our hotel.Read more

Built in 1805 the outer walls enclosing the entire complex are 2.5 km long each enclose the over 1,000 acres, are surrounded by a moat and are alongside the Huong River or Perfume River. Each area of the Citadel is absolutely amazing and full of history. We chose to do the audio tour. Hopefully the pictures speak volumes.Read more

  • Hue old town and Thiem Mu Pagoda

    February 4 in Vietnam ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

We took a tour around Old Town on a cyclo. A three wheel bicycle taxi. What an experience as they ride with regular traffic. Then we went to the local market. These places are massive and full of everything and anything you could want to buy. You always bargain on the price. We then visited the Thiem Mu Pagoda. Another place full of history. Then back to the train station to catch our 730pm train back to DaNang.Read more

  • The Marbel Mountains

    February 4 in Vietnam ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

A must see!! Caves, pagodas towers and amazing viewpoints of the city and ocean. I'm sure I got more than my daily "steps" in, literally. Some steps were thigh high for me at least while others were not so bad. Some steps really wide and others narrow. You definitely have to keep your eyes on where you are going but it's worth every step. We did end up at the police station doing a report for Harry's missing wallet. He had bought water earlier in the day then went to get his wallet out of his backpack when we were done at Marble Mountain and it was no longer there. Went to the office and they were very nice, took our information wanted me to contact bank immediately to cancel his debit and credit card. We let the hotel know as he had hotel room key card in wallet as well. They were nice as well and also suggested we report to the police incase wallet was located or turned in so we did go to the police station. Had to use Google translate as nobody there spoke English but we got it done. We then spent the rest of the afternoon soaking up the sun after 2 rainy days. Will do a second posting of more pictures as I cannot choose.Read more

  • Beach Day

    February 5 in Vietnam ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Nothing exciting happened today. We decided that after breakfast we would head to the beach for the day then we went to the pool on the 19th floor to catch the last rays of sunshine. The sky was clear enough that we were able to see the Lady Buddha statue in the distance. I did my writing in the sand which is a must on each trip.Read more

  • boat ride and Old Town Hoi An

    February 6 in Vietnam ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Today we went on coconut basket boat ride through Bay Mau coconut forest. Was a cool experience and something I wanted to do. then a 10 minute grab ride to Old Town in Hoi An. Lots of different boat rides that you can take and was interesting that in this part of Vietnam they make a lot of leather goods. Shoes of all styles and made just for you if you want. Silk cashmere and linen clothing and suits made to order. Harry picked a couple of his favorite suits on display. We may go back one night to watch the lanterns being lit but we had enough for today.Read more
