• Day 1: Travel to KL by Matt

    14.–15. jul., England ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

Borneo day has finally arrived! With the luxury of an evening flight we had pretty much the whole day to pack, repack and faff around. Opting to train and bus via Feltham, we got to the airport with plenty of time to enjoy our lounge passes.

Strolling into the Plaza Premium like pros, we filled our boots with beer, wine and various mediocre rice dishes. The chocolate brownies were the highlight, of which we consumed double digits, before heading to our departure gate.

All hopes of an upgrade were dashed and we settled in to peruse the inflight entertainment options and ready ourselves for the next 13 hours. Several films and episodes later, a fitful night's sleep, and 2 underwhelming meals, of which Millen got into the Asian spirit by having chicken and rice for both dinner and breakfast, we landed before we'd barely woken up the following day.

Losing 8 hours, it was a discombobulating 5pm when we stepped out of the plane. We navigated the slightly confusing online entry forms and opted to haggle for a taxi into KL.

Our cheery driver pointed out some of the famous buildings including the Merdeka 118, the second tallest in the world. Twisted in shape and lit up with purple stripes it is very impressive and dominates the skyline. He dropped us at 1000 Miles, our hotel for the first couple of nights.

It was late evening by the time we set out for dinner, finding a sting of Indian restaurants round the corner. We picked a South Indian veggie one called Sangeetha's and ordered mix of dishes such as dosa and oothappa and various others our waiter recommended and we happily obliged. Very full and fatigued we headed back to gratefully doze off.
