• Day 7 : Leaving Sarawak for Sabah by Simi

    20. juli, Malaysia ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Staying right in the heart of the rainforest was an incredible way to truly feel immersed in it, but this morning everyone deffo was rather tetchy…. Why? We all had a dreadful night’s sleep. They don’t call it a rainforest for nothing; the rain never let up, and combined with the constant chatter of nocturnal creatures, drifting off felt almost impossible. Even when I did manage to catch 40 winks, I was quickly awakened again… anyway it was still a very special location and today was looking like a pretty non eventful day with travel being the main agenda item so we could sleep en route.

Following breakfast we met the trusty and smiley Habib who drove us to the airport . His love for his country and sharing all his facts was so endearing and we were all totally charmed by this gentleman’s kindness and passions .

We were sad to leave Sarawak but it was now time to catch another flight. So from Kuching the capital of Sarawak we took a flight to the capital of Sabah… Kota Kinabalu.

I dozed on the plane but it was only a short flight. We ordered another “grab” and had all decided we were having a chilled couple of days at our next hotel.

Originally when booking our trip we had hoped to go to turtle island in this time but as its peak tourist time, the ethical company that we had wanted to go with was already booked up .. so we re-evaluated our plan and decided a couple of days just chilling at a nice hotel with a pool or two might be in order…. And boy oh boy after our lack of sleep, this decision was a massive welcome relief !

The Shangri La was perfect- bars/ ice cream shops/ pools/ gym.. we had a gorgeous couple of rooms with gigantic beds, waffle dressing gowns and iced coffee in the fridge.

We walked around and checked out the facilities before settling on ice creams , swims and sundowners.
We even ended up having a very non Malaysian meal of burger and chips/ pizza/ pasta at one of the restaurants . I think sometimes you just need a bit of stopping and chilling and that’s what we have right now!

I fell asleep as soon as I my head hit the pillow. Bliss!
