    Views from the Shoulder

    June 16, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Yesterday and today have been riding along Highway 200.
We began the day with errands to the post office for mailing unneeded stuff home, and REI and Adventure Cycling Association HQ. I guessed my bike weighed 71 pounds. Alas, it was 89. Oh well, we are over Lolo Pass.
A highlight for the day was getting an on-the-spot adjustment to my loose rear wheel bearings and brake. I met Marlena in the post office and she told me about her Bike Doctor work. Marlena called ahead and Eric met me at the door, then Don touched up my bike beautifully! Such a great while traveling!!!
Last night we camped along the river. It was so peaceful and beautiful, confirming why this ride is so attractive.
On the left card and trucks. Sometimes using a good shoulder, sometimes a leftover scrap of narrow asphalt or a guardrail close to the white line. Cars and trucks are generally thoughtful fellow travelers.
On the right and ahead are amazing landscapes and vistas. The river beside the highway is like a calf wanting milk. She bangs up against the hillside, gets rebuffed and turns aside, only to bang back up against the hillside again and again. Each time, we are treated to a breathtaking view of a winding river wand it’s banks. Such a treat and a big reason why I came here.
We are in Lincoln Montana now planning to camp nearby.
