    Day 1 - All Yellow

    August 23, 2024 in England ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

Today's theme ... everyone wears yellow. There were lots of rubber ducks and bananas. We were up at 6.30am, the earliest for a long long time, in order to drive up to Ragley Hall at Alcester and take up the place David and Helen were saving for us. They'd arrived and set up the night before and could only hold it for so long, as space is in demand.

It's very family oriented and has a good atmosphere.
The music on the main stage wasn't really our thing. The UK Foo Fighters and Groove Armada, but we enjoyed the acoustic lounge camper, with some really good saxophone playing.
A dry day and a late night.

  • Day 2 - Kayaking and Barreoke

    August 24, 2024 in England ⋅ 🌧 14 °C

Heavy rain this morning and we had booked a kayaking session on the little lake. Luckily it had eased by the time we got in. It was fun but our seats were over-inflated so we had no back support and it was a big strain on the back.
Quite a physical day all round, with 3 trips back and forth from vans to the festival. Watched some karaoke acts with Barry from East Enders and sang along. After a rest back at camp, and some heavy rain we got dressed up and went to watch the fancy dress competition, which we decided to enter once we heard the prize was a family ticket to next year's festival. It was all good fun and we joined in the parade around the site. No prize for us though.
Then we went to watch and joined in with a Bavarian type band from the Midlands, involving lots of audience participation and it was in effect a workout. Some was pretty cheesy but good fun.
After a return to the van for a change of clothes it was off out again to get food (and in David and Helen's case, see the bands). We like the campervan lounge, a good saxaphone player and more acoustic. We had a really really good prawn meal from a place called the Shrimp Shack.
Food is festival prices, most things around £14. A coffee and a flapjack (both were small) cost £8.20.

  • Day 3 - some rain

    August 25, 2024 in England ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Went up to see The Lancashire Hotpots and later Thrill Collins but couldn't find David and Helen. Wandered around a bit, then it got a bit damp and cold, so back to the van and out later again to see Sophie Ellis Bexter. Very wet this evening.Read more

  • Day 4 - The Exodus

    August 26, 2024 in Wales ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Time to pack up and go. Sunny and dry. We hung around a bit, John tickled Huey & Ollie, and I knitted while David and Helen 'struck the set' and then we all left around midday for the journey home. Stopped off at a down market cafe and had baked potatoes. Like going back quite a few years, had a wonky clock, slightly cranky toilets, friendly cooks and just spot on for what we wanted at the time.
Garden had grown a bit, even in just 4 days. Plus, a few caterpillar guests arrived.
