    Happy to be back!

    July 14, 2024 in England ⋅ ☁️ 72 °F

Phoebe and Hazel have called us back to Chiswick, and this time we brought Mom Carol with us for a week! We left Boston at 10 pm, enjoyed a smooth flight on Virgin Atlantic, and landed in Heathrow Sunday morning. Forgot how much walking it takes just to get out of there! So happy to see the animals again. We napped, strolled around Chiswick Gardens, got takeaway Indian food, watched the Euros finals, and then collapsed!Read more

  • Mother Daughter Day at Kew Gardens

    July 15, 2024 in England ⋅ ☁️ 68 °F

What a beautiful, relaxing day at Kew Gardens, just a couple subway stops away from our neighborhood. We meandered along flower filled paths, hugged glorious ancient trees, marveled at the giant Amazon lily pads, and sweated a bit in the steamy palm house! For our final stop we met up with Aaron at a local pub for drinks and dinner. Really lovely day.Read more

  • Greenwich Market and Thames ride

    July 16, 2024 in England ⋅ ☁️ 72 °F

After multiple modes of public transportation, Mom and I arrived at Greenwich Market in time to browse the art stalls before trying out new foods from the lunch stalls there. She had a Turkish crepe-style offering, and I tried a veggie dog.

We strolled by the impressive Cutty Sark ship, then boarded a boat that took us on a one hour ride along the Thames, docking at Westminster. Once back in Chiswick, we grocery shopped then took in the Happy Hour special at The Crown and Anchor pub. To wrap up our adventures, we got caught in pouring rain on our way home! Another delightful day!

  • Exploring Chiswick

    July 17, 2024 in England ⋅ ☁️ 75 °F

We spent the day meandering around Chiswick, starting with a walk around the Gardens, then found a charming neighborhood spot for lunch. After that, we walked to the Thames and strolled along the river path before making our way back, by way of a local pub adorned with spectacular flowers! Mom clocked about 5 miles of walking today - quite impressive for an old lady! 😄Read more

  • Whiskers and Cream and more!

    July 18, 2024 in England ⋅ ⛅ 81 °F

What's a trip to London without afternoon tea at a delightful cat cafe? It was so much fun! The pictures say it all. From there, we took the overground to Richmond, the enchanting borough where the Ted Lasso series takes place. We walked around Richmond Green, had Pimms and cheese and onion crisps at the famous Prince's Head, shopped, wandered, then had some yummy sourdough pizza at Franco Manca. Once back, I introduced Mom to Ted Lasso and we binge watched three episodes!Read more

  • Catching up

    July 18, 2024 in England ⋅ ⛅ 81 °F

A few days ago, the temps were in the high 80s so we stayed around the house and read and I worked on flight arrangements for the girls. Nothing too exciting to report there! The next day, Mom and I continued our adventures with a top-of-the-bus ride into Central London, which included stops at Hamley's Toy Store, Liberty Department Store, and meandering the Carnaby Street and Soho neighborhoods. We had an amazing lunch at the very popular vegan restaurant, Mildred's!

On Sunday, we went to the Chiswick Cheese Market, then St Paul's Cathedral for the 3:00 Evensong service. We took the bus back via Trafalgar Square, Westminster, Hyde Park, and Notting Hill, and closed the day with ciders at the The Tabard Inn. 😀

Monday, Anna and Charlotte arrived! Yay!!!!!!

  • Pubs with Mom, then more cats.

    July 23, 2024 in England ⋅ ⛅ 73 °F

On Mom's last night, we went to The Packhorse and Talbot, which has great cocktails and a pub menu we all love. Afterwards, we moved on to The George IV for more pub fun!

The next morning, we said our goodbyes and Mom flew home by way of Boston, Lebanon, NH, then Vermont. It was no fun to see her leave after ten amazing days!

Later that afternoon, the four of us took the tube to the east side of London. We strolled through Spitalfields market and along Shoreditch's famed Brick Lane before the big event: an evening of vegan wine and cheese tasting at Lady Dinah's Cat Emporium! This was my birthday gift from Anna and it was everything we love bundled into one event: 🐈, 🧀, and 🍷!!!

Hazel, one of many puzzles, on the underground, lunch and shopping at Borough Market, then for Aaron, Bruce Springsteen at Wembley!

  • Ben and Jerry's Sundaes in the Park

    July 27, 2024 in England ⋅ ☀️ 63 °F

It was a bit strange to have this Vermont-based benefit festival just around the corner from our house! The lines for food and activities we take for granted at home (ice cream cones, a few minutes of cornhole) were ridiculously long, but we stayed a few hours, met some cool people, and were able to walk home in time for Hazel's dinner!Read more
