Day 1 Birthday Brunch in Kapa'a

    June 16, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

We arrived in Lihue, Kauai (after a 4 hour delay) at 2:30 a.m. Our hotel, Kauai Shores, is in Kapa'a and is right on the beach. We slept in and had an amazing birthday breakfast for Nancy with Macadamia Pancakes, fruit with sparklers and a mimosa for Miss Nancy! We had our coffee on the beach and got ready for our Napali Coast boat tour.Read more

  • Day 1 Glass Beach & Hanapepe

    June 16, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

We drove down the east side of Kauai to Port Allen in Eleele. We stopped at Glass Beach, which is a very cool spot where there are a lot of little pieces of sea glass. We also stopped in a funky little town called Hanapepe and walked around while we waited for our tour to begin.Read more

  • Day 1 Napali Coast on the Amelia K

    June 16, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

We boarded the Amelia K with Captain Mike, a native Hawaiian, with his crew, Leilani and Asia. I immediately told Mike that Nancy turned 60 today, so of course, he had the whole boat sing Happy Birthday to her! Highlights included a harbor seal and a sea turtle sighting, spinner dolphins frolicking by our boat, exploring sea caves, beautiful waterfalls (one was even IN the sea cave!) the beautiful green mountains along the coast, snorkeling, and on the way back, beautiful rainbows, and even a complete double rainbow, and because you can't have a rainbow without the rain, a total downpour on the way back to Port Allen in Eleele.Read more

  • Day 2 Ho'opi'i Falls, Kapa'a

    June 17, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

Our 2nd day started with coffee on the beach and perusing our bible, The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook, loaned to us by the wonderful Theresa Helus. We decided it was a good day to go north, so we started at Ho'opi'i Falls. This was neatly hidden away in a residential neighborhood and disguised by huge shrubs. Luckily, we encountered several others who were searching at the same time. we were all lost, until a couple emerged from the rainforest and showed us the way. It was a MUDDY, STEEP and very BUGGY trail, with a nice little waterfall as a payoff. The teacher in me was very scared and judgemental of the teens who were risking their necks to jump into this torrent of water and rocks. The lower falls were featured in the movie Jurassic Park (movie sets are a continuing theme in Kauai) We didn't stay long. When I googled the falls, the first entry was "Ho'opi'i Falls death" and there were 2 in the past 6 years, so...Read more

  • Day 2 a land called Hanalei...& Kilauea

    June 17, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

We LOVED Hanalei Bay! The beach was mellow, a river flowed into it and it was protected, so no huge waves. We saw kayakers, swimmers, and beauty everywhere! We drove to the Kilauea Lighthouse, but it was reservation only. I think we got a pretty great view, though! It is also a bird sanctuary and we saw lots of different birds, and Hawaiian geese on our short stop.Read more

  • Day 2 The Queen's Bath

    June 17, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

We were access denied to another popular site where we wanted to hike, (Ha'ena State Park) but we found another amazing hike to The Queen's Bath. This was another muddy and steep hike, but we were experts by the end of the day, and the payoff was AMAZING! There is a waterfall that spills into a little cove/inlet and we hit it as the sun was sinking low. Gorgeous!Read more

  • Day 4 Sunset @ The Beach House in Koloa

    June 19, 2025 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 24 °C

This day just kept getting more amazing. We got to watch the sunset and eat an amazing dinner (arugula & goat cheese salad and coconut shrimp) with an even better dessert...chocolate mochi with a raspberry glaze and fresh whipped cream. Nancy had an espresso martini...I had to be the designated driver. No worries, cuz I was high on all the experiences we had.Read more

  • Day 5 Beaches and Waterfalls

    June 20, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

Our day continued with a trip to Wailua Falls, then a stop at Kalapaki Beach and on to Opaeka'a Falls, and then we ended our day in a lovely restaurant called Keoki's Paradise in Koloa, near Poipu Beach. Swordfish and beurre blanc, and a mango margarita is what keeps it for me!Read more
