Our tour guide was 9 years old during the war in Croatia. He and his classmates and teachers went to stay in a hotel on an island off the Croatian coast, where they would be safe from the bombing. Their parents stayed home, with no water or electricity for 6 months. He said he was aware of the war and that his parents were stressed, but the experience for him was an adventure, like a long field trip. What amazing parents and teachers, to work together to protect their children and their homes.
